Newcomer / Intro Why not a second Galaxy?

Really ?
Edit: in Italics.
Is there no Sol System to visit ?
No the system is there but remember the discussion about how experienced players cannot get into the starter zone because of the lack of a permit?

Sol system, and several others, are only accessible after you have obtained a permit. In the case of Sol you need to obtain a certain rank by doing missions for the Federation navy.
This isn’t something that you need to bother with at the moment though.

I think doing the following will track all your travels and visitations....

Register an account on ED Star Map (EDSM) and link it to your Frontier account. https://www.edsm.net/
Install ED Market Connector (EDMC) and launch it every time you play. http://edcodex.info/?m=tools&entry=150
Configure EDMC to update EDSM automatically.

Disclaimer: I spend most of my game time on Community Goals and working the background simulation so I haven't used this functionality much.
Thanks Jago. I think I'll wait until I "head out into the Black" before using this, although in hindsight I would be wise to test it out here in "The Noob". Thanks again.(y)

I'm going to counter the EDMC suggestion - if you are going to concentrate on exploration then I think you would be much better served to use EDDiscovery - that has a plethora of features but the reason I have it running every time I am in the game is its value for exploration. For example it shows scan data and values and indicates if a body can be terraformed (biggest payouts). There is another specifically exploration tool and that is Commander's Log but I have not used that in years and don't know if you would find it more to your taste.

I have not used EDMC in years either, so if it has exploration features (other than EDSM links) maybe someone can chime in to correct me.

You can find out about all the tools in the sub-forum Player's Tools...

Fancy stumbling on a jump point to a totally unexplored second Galaxy ....... o_O You'd jump to a single system with a limited number of other systems shown, and you'd have to jump to each to slowly, very slowly expand the Galaxy Map. Now that's Exploration !(y) [Maybe that jump point is out there ...... we just haven't found it yet ....... ;)] Ok. I'm starting the search now ....... You are welcome to join me ....... ;) Edit: shown in Italics
Isn't that at least partly what Raxxla is supposed to be, possibly a portal to another galaxy?

There seem to be doubts as to the Raaxxia location. But I'll do some checking at EDDiscovery. (y)

I suggest taking a look at the Great Raxxla Potato Hunt. It just brute forces exploring every system in the range at which Raxxla could reasonably be located, but it does so very elegantly through managing a collective effort around players claiming 20x20 ly cubes on the map for exploring - this way it directs effective exploration that doesn't really overlap which would waste efforts.

I keep overlooking how big our Galaxy is. 😮
There's so much Space to search!!!
The best advice I can find (maybe the only ....) is here:

From the statistics on the home page of Elite Dangerous Star Map.
0.014463% of the galaxy has been discovered on EDSM, it will take 37,387 years, 1 month, 19 days to discover it entirely.

That's a big difference ..... 😮 Maybe between "end of year" and "37,387yrs , 1mth and 19days" ..... ? ;)

(I assume the 37,387yrs forecast is base upon the current rate of exploration ...... )

System Maps don't seem to have complete details about their inclusions ......
eg. I'm in the Noob Zone, in the "Hollatja System" visiting "Popper Keep" Planetary Port on Planet "Hollataja 2".
There's nothing on the map showing "Popper Keep" and its only reference in the text is by Locations: "Human (1) "

on a side note I started a second account over the weekend to see the new start to the game
must say was well impressed with it all now, starting with a tangible link to the pilots federation as a cadet, a bit of story linking the training elements, that shot when you leave the station for the 1st time, very immersive

At the start of the year it said we needed 38,000. So if we've done 700 years this year I'd say we're making pretty decent speed honestly.

Hollatja is not part of the starter systems - it is next door - so if you dock you will lose your permit.

To see a surface installation details you have to view the surface map (the third icon in your popup).

Frontier say that currently 0.048% of systems have been visited - that's a lot of people not using tools that feed EDSM.

Looks like Popper Keep is on the planet, so to see it you have to zoom in on the planet. Then you can see any surface ports and target them for landing.
