No, for me, on Elite I prefer the cable set up but run through Oculus Dash as opposed to Steam, you only need steam if your going for Virtual Desktop - the paid app. I find Oculus HMDs work best with Oculus Dash. Thanks for the replies, I did redeem my Steam key and install through steam. I've a pretty high end rig so expect to be ok there. I did indeed see a few more threads on this so good info. A question on wireless set up though, which looks difficult to do. If I will be sitting in my chair using a HOTAS is wireless really needed? I have ordered the cable for PC connection with the Quest so I'd imagine that wireless isn't really necessary for a game that you are sitting down for.
I’ve never found the cable from my Rift S to be any sort of hindrance with Elite, but one thing I’d do for the Quest is get a clip to route the cable around the back of the HMD otherwise it just sort of hangs off the front side. The default head strap isn’t exactly fantastic so anything that stops the visor getting unseated from your ideal eye position is worth getting. Thanks for the replies, I did redeem my Steam key and install through steam. Have you installed the latest update?I have just changed from my RiftCV to a Quest 2 vis Link - I get a weird flicker constantly every time I move my head - given the quest is better than the old rift CV is there some settings i should change ...
I don't use the Quest 2 myself, but this seems like it may help you with the problem you are having.
- With this release, Quest 2 headsets can now run natively at 90 Hz by default. This higher frame rate has been shown to provide a smoother visual experience and improve your time spent in VR overall.
- To start, system level software will run at 90 Hz. Additional app adoption is based on developer discretion. Developers will have full-access to this feature as part of the upcoming SDK release.
Welcome to the wonderful world of VR Commander.Any tips on using the galaxy map. I’d imagine I’ll have to learn to use it with the HOTAS with key bindings but it’s not easy.
Please tell us which graphic card you use and how is the performance with an Oculus Quest 2 as it has a "high" resolution display. Project Cars 2 is also very nice to play with a VR Headset. I also would like to buy a Quest 2 and i'm asking myself if a RTX2070 would be sufficient for this! Greetings!
I have the Index but I actually prefer to use the Q2.
The Index has terrible god flares. It ruins the experience for me. I constantly feel the need to adjust the Index on my face trying to see through the god flares. The lack of black is worse than it is on the Quest2. It's like you're playing in a 70's smokers pub on free ciggies night. (They won't let me use the F A Gs word. in this post haha.) For me, nothing beats the crisp deep blacks of the OG HTC Vive with the lens mod. Sure it had the awful SDE but, with that lens mod you can look around with your eyes & not feel like you have to have that fresnel sweet spot glued to your pupils. If someone comes out with a lens mod for the OQ2, no other HMD would get a look in. The Index has a slightly bigger FOV. Picture quality is comparable between the Index & OQ2. As is the SDE, or lack of it. Sound quality is good on the Index. But add an HTC DAS to the OQ2 & it's near as damn it, the same. The tracking is superb on the Index. As it is on the OG Vive, (same hardware). You just can't beat those lighthouses. The OQ2 tracking is good too though. Just not as crisp. I hate the Valve controllers. They just don't seat naturally in the hands. You end up with thumb strain & that irritating feeling you get when trying to drive a car straight with a flat tyre. But best of all, the option of wireless freedom & the lightness of the OQ2 just steals the prize.
