Just bought an Oculus Quest 2 and thinking elite is a great place to try it out. Will it work?

Hi LeetNoob,

Could you please check if you see some bad effects with flickering like in videos?

I faced this issue and I afraid that my 1080ti too slow for Elite VR or my CPU i7-3770 too old.
I get used to it on my 4k monitor but can't get used to on my Oculus Quest 2 - it is very annoying

ED is wonderful in VR but I can't find settings to remove these effects

And I afraid that matter is in the game not in the system.

Thanks for that, its interesting, coming from the Rift CV1 the first thing I did was buy an specific OQ2 game which was Vader Immortal and immediately saw the blacks issue. I switched back to my CV1 and black was black then back to OQ2 and it was a grey mess. Ive since realised that its just a compromise that you have to live with (there are many benefits over the CV1) and for the most part ED is great. For sound and fit, after much consideration like you I went the DAS route and I am very pleased with the result, very CV1 like.

Finally at launch the Link Cable was very poor for me, but now its out of Beta its like a whole new headset, really impressive quality and robustness.

While I would say I am still finding my feet with this headset I am very happy with it now. I was also pleased to see the possible option of 144hz on the horizon, no idea what that would mean for me but please none the less that there are still lots of plans for improvements to this headset.

Yes, I too noticed the change in 'the link'. It feels more like a proper PCVR headset now. Do you have that positional seat drift when playing long sessions? I found I had to go through recentre the Quest, recentre SteamVR (Or Oculus PC app), then finally the ED reset HMD. Otherwise, I was getting neck strain trying to open the side role panels. I used the 120 & 144hz on the Index. Maybe the games I played didn't cater to it, it wasn't something I can say made any real difference.

I played ED on an i7 6700HQ, 16gb 2133mhz RAM, GTX1060M (laptop version). for nearly 3 years, I never had anything like that.

And, not only, but also, Virtual Desktop has had some major updates. It's really made a difference. Have a look in the new settings for 'slicing' also, now you can find there's an overlay that you can use to see how the 'in-game' graphic settings changes affect FPS & latency.

Er, aliasing? Crank up the SuperSampling. 1080ti is just fine.
Thank you for your advice.
I tried to combine all settings in different places - in Nvidia driver, in setting ED, in settings HMD.

I used SuperSamling and different option

I wasted about 20-30 hours to find the optimal solution and I still can't achieve it.
I run ED from different stores - Steam, Epic Games, Oculus.
I tried to run ED with Oculus link, Virtual Desktop, and also with the monitor without HDM.
I'm not sure about fps on my HMD, but I have more than 90 fps if I use the monitor without HDM.
I tried FXAA, MLAA2, MLAA4, SMAA.
And everywhere I see vibration and shimmer effect.

The best result which I could catch - SS - 1.25 и Quality HDM - 2 and SMAA
They are less than other options, but they are there.

I watched some videos on youtube and I see this effect in some of them but there are some videos without them.

Please see the screen below. Do you have these effects?
If not could you please share screenshots or videos from how looks ED on your screen?

Maybe you have some on youtube?

I have configuration CPU i7-3770, Graphic card GeForce 1080ti, RAM 8Gb 1600MHz.
I think about an upgrade but I afraid to spend 2-3k$ and get nothing.
And I want to be sure which components I need to change first - CPU, RAM, Graphic card.

Like others will say your 1080ti is fine, the rest of the system is marginal. Because your cpu is the best you can get for a 1155 socket, your only upgrade path is more RAM - not really needed for Elite, or you might try faster ram 3200?

Top 8 Best LGA 1155 CPUs for Gaming in 2020 Reviews (beststuffsreviews.com)

But thats old now.

However cause you have the best in socket that means your only option is to upgrade your Motherboard, Ram and CPU. Good news is that your running the 1080ti so its doubtful that youll need a new PSU or case. You will however probably need a liquid cooler if you want to OC the CPU. Youll get some money if you sell your motherboard, cpu and ram - youll be surprised

Here is your CPU benched against mine. Mine is a mid to top range now depending on how you view it. Its OC to 5GHz, I also have a 1080ti.

UserBenchmark: Intel Core i7-3770K vs i7-9700K

Its tough I am sure your system can run VR its just how low the setting would need to be to suit your particular preference.

Thanks a lot!
You give me hope.

Yesterday I played Fallout 4 VR and it was quite good - I saw some small effects but they were not annoying for me. Maybe it is because F4 VR has TAA :)
ED is the main reason why I bought HMD - I love this game and it is very nice in VR.

I want to replace CPU next month to resolve CPU question for several years and now think what of them will be better - Intel Core i9-9900(K?KF?) or Intel Core i9-10900(K?KF?).
What do think about that?
And what do you think which socket is better - 1151v2 or 1200?

Its all down to cost the motherboard, cpu and RAM are your minimum investment, but you need to keep in mind your PSU as well. If you go for the very latest i9 XXXXX chip - or AMD equivalent, just make sure the PSU can handle it and that it has enough sockets and the sockets are the right type - take into account adding a liquid cooler. Reason is that these new chips do run hot and the air coolers cant disperse the heat. Do your own background on this as it does change with each new release. As a complete side my i7 9700k was a preference over the i9 9900k as the i9 was reported to run so hot that even a liquid cooler was insufficient and the OC of the time recommended custom water cooling something that I was not prepared for. Now the reality lies somewhere in the middle for most of us but its something to be aware of as you go for a higher end system.

I a super happy with my set up, I will get a new GPU as soon as stock returns but the rest is ample for what I need. I would imagine that my CPU and a Z390 motherboard are quite cheap now just check out the stats (google i9 9900k vs i7 9700k) and compare it to the latest and greatest.

I bought Zalman ZM850-GVM 850W for 1080ti.
It will be enough for i9 and 1080ti together?

PSUs are complicated but certainly the headline of 850w is enough.

Here is a quick vid all around a space station which tends to hammer FPS

(85) Elite in OQ2 - YouTube

Thank you very much for the videos!
It is really important to me.

I see that you have the same effects with flickering but you haven't any vibration of textures as I have.

It means that the problem with flickering is not dependent on CPU or GPU - it is just ED engine and I need to just get to take it as is
But on your videos this effect less annoying than I have because there isn't any vibration.
And I hope that I will be able to resolve vibration if I buy a new CPU.

Below some screens from your video and I marked places where I see effects which I try to fight

Red pencil - flickering places.
Yellow - is good.

I dont have flickering that am aware of, remember your seeing a compressed video from my OQ2 thats been further compressed by youtube and then played on your machine. Here its pretty darn smooth in game.

Yes, it is possible.
Please check place under station name when your start - 1:12 on your video - I marked it by red pencil

Got it, played it back at 0.25x speed and yes I can see the station get rebuilt at that point when the panel that covered it closed down.

Save your money, thats FDEV Elite not you :)

Thanks, That was funny :)
I spent in ED 300 hour. I know that it isn't very much but there is.
I also hadn't seen it on the monitor before I saw it in OQ2
Thanks a lot for your helping!

The first is probably a poor USB issue, the motherboard for that CPU is getting really old, and VR puts extreme stresses on USB that these boards where never tested towards.
Simply put, yes It's too old.

Second video.
That's Aliasing, turn on AA.
That would most likely take a fairly noticeable dive in performance, considering how old the CPU\chipset is though.

Hey, I have a Quest 2 and bought ED on Steam hoping to play it. I have tried it on VD and via LINK but the controllers don't work in the game.

Via VD I was able to change the options I selected by looking at them, but no button I pressed would 'click' the start option. I did it manually with my keyboard but no controls in the cockpit beside the view change working.

With Link the left thumbstick controlled the select option on the Start menu but again no joy with a button to select start. Same when i keyboarded in to the cockpit. The hands don't react o any movement, not sure if they are supposed to prelaunch.

I did see a comment that the controllers take some messing around at the start of this thread but no specific details.

When I click the left "Oculus" button the overlay has the controllers test area, all works correctly there.

Please advise, apologies for the vast level of ignorance - first VR experience and first ED experience.

I’m afraid you won’t be able to play the game with the Touch controllers - also, motion tracked controls aren’t a thing in Elite.

I use a wireless Xbox 360 pad with the game which I think works very well, and many VR users enjoy using joystick+throttle combos while some stick to mouse+keyboard.
