Hi Bruce, thanks for doing this

I know that you mentioned in the balancing thread that you didn't have plans to make any changes to Smuggling at the moment, but could I ask if you noted that there is a major bug which lowers the sell price of illegal goods by 25%?
It would be fantastic if the team could just fix this one thing as part of the balancing changes, so at least Smugglers are not penalised and almost always losing credits.

With the balancing patches that are underway (which I am a fan of btw) you caused a bit of a stirrup for me (and maybe other CMDRs like me). I use my Fleet Carrier for bulk trading, so I can offer competitive prices for mined goods. That way CMDRs who aren't mining min-maxingly have a place in the neighborhood to sell their goods at a reasonable price and at a FC with a large demand.
This does mean that my profit margin is rather small and I hoard minerals until I run out of space and then sell when prices go up at stations that are out of the way. Between the announcement of pay nerfs and the rollout I have been frantically selling all of my stock and have subsequently lost around half a billion credits.

I'm not complaining about the credit loss; that's my risk to take and I take it gladly. I'm just wondering whether to expect more of these sudden changes in the coming nerfs/buffs? I'd like to know, so I can adapt my trading strategy.

Hi all, thanks for the AMA!

Q: Are we going to see a Polish localisation of the game? It was confirmed in one of the early newsletters, but we've not seen it so far and there has been no concrete answer from Frontier whenever the Polish community asks the question. It would be good to have a confirmation one way or another. Thanks :) (y)

Why did fdev give in to those below the 25% for the CG reward?

Is powerplay and BGs ever going to open only?

Are there going to be changes to the amount of AX/Guardian weapons you can have on a ship as 4 is alright but would be nice to have more.

Q: We often tell new users to select the controls preset of "keyboard and mouse with yaw". Could Frontier consider making that the default setting? Could Frontier please also consider unbinding "Jettison all cargo" for new users? It just causes issues.
 
Are there plans in place to address bugs[1] in the base game and/or Horizons in the forseeable[2] future?

[1] e.g. Pulse Wave Scanner lag, Megaship Cargo ejection, Sysmap UI scaling on ultra wide monitors
[2] before or in tandem with Odyssey release

Lore Question's

  • What would the closest 21th century equivalent to a proper Imperial Accent? I just got a good chuckle imagining it being heavy Scottish, but please prove me wrong.
  • As above but for Alliance and Federation.

Suggestion Feedback

  • Add a "Read by FDev" marker for posts in the suggestion section, just so people don't feel like speaking to a void.
  • Give some new incentives to low tier commodity trading or mining. Even if it is just raising the money / hour to be a reliable if less profitable way to earn money than other methods without feeling like a complete waste of time.

Ongoing Developments

  • Will Squadrons ever be expanded in some way?
  • Power Play. How is it going?
  • Salvage Missions. Will they be part of your rebalancing efforts? I want to stick my nose into wrecks again, without having to pay more for my damages by opposing NPC's than the mission pays.

Question:
When Squadrons was announced there were high hopes for it and some expectations were met. However, in some areas it arguably didn’t feel as if it had satisfied the needs of the ED Player Groups. As such are there any plans to revisit Squadrons in the future and take into account further feedback from Player Groups when considering any changes.

Greetings! I know you said that the ship's interiors will not be at the start of the odyssey, but please tell us what they will be like? Will only one cabin be available for moving, or will we be able to go to the part of the ship where the cabins, cargo modules, shields, etc. are located?
I know you probably can't talk about it directly, but please at least give us a hint. thank you!

1. My main question for the whole ED:
What's your opinion on player-driven economy and world in general?


I'll try to explain:
I know we have BGS, but I'm talking about more direct influence on the trading, mining, etc.
For example, to make market prices to 100% depends only on the player's activities. If player mine and sell a lot of painite - then it's price automatically will go down, then players switch to another activities - the price eventually go up.
It will require some actual simulation for production and usage of the commodities by NPCs/Stations though. With no manually set base prices or min/max price limitations.

2. Second question (related to the first one):
Player crafting, modules and ships trading.


Did you ever consider such mechanics? Not just one-time consumables (restocks, injections), rather to be able to craft custom modules, even ships.
Or at least trade engineered modules between players? Maybe via Fleet Carrier services.

TL;DR for both questions: I desperately waiting for any player-driven meaningful systems in the game... Because BGS and Power Play (while they are player-driven indeed) they does not really affect the game in any meaningful way, e.g. no effect on regular activities.

Hi Norlin, we're only taking one question from each player at a time so I'll go with your first.

I really like the idea of a player-driven economy but also know how complex they are to create and run. I'd love to see it introduced in Elite but it'd require a lot of work like introducing practical uses for all traded commodities. I don't see this happening in the foreseeable, but always happy to hear and join in any speculation.

Hi team! Thanks for doing this, it's much appreciated! I only have 2 burning questions on already announced Odyssey features:

1) While we know most of the game play and missions will take place around settlements, will there be any missions such as assassinations or theft that take place directly in Star Ports and Planetary Ports?

2) While it was confirmed that BGS will affect missions given by NPCs, and faction allegiances affect NPC generation, will the BGS "States" affect NPC behavior in stations? Will it also affect the stations visually?
