Newcomer / Intro Fuel Scoop Question .....

What's so dangerous about these ? Thanks.
They have huge exclusion zones. So huge, in fact, that they're easy to miss entirely after arrival, leading to forced drops from SC and damage. I've made a habit of immediately turning away from them completely upon arrival, and they're the only ones I do that for. (White Dwarfs, that is. Haven't come across the other two yet.)

Edit : ninja'ed. ;)

When I arrive at system, I auto drop out of Hyperdrive into stationary Supercruise. If you have to turn away, it sounds as though you are still moving forward after you drop out of Hyperdrive ...... is that right, or is there just too much heat even when stationary ?

Experienced pilots almost never arrive in a system stationary (30kps). So jump in full throttle, ease back on the joystick till you hit the scoop zone, run discovery scanner while scoopng, if star is a single or just other stars by the time you round the star you are ready to jump to next system, if anything interesting move out of scoop zone, zero throttle and FSS. Either eventuality as soon as you finish what you are doing you are ready to jump.

I was actually doing almost all of this (throttling up, fuel scooping, jumping, but not scanning). I've done no scanning yet. Might be time to start here in the Noob Zone. Thanks. ;)

OH!!!! Thanks. I never really looked!!!
Before there was Super Cruise Assist and the ability to do this automatically the technique was to throttle to zero during the jump.
Every so often there would be someone complaining that their ship hadn’t stopped after the jump while they had gone to make a drink or visit the bathroom what had happened was their ship had flown into the star at 30km/s.

You can run the discovery scanner as you do other stuff, it's just so simple to do while you are fuel scooping that it's a no brainer, the rest is up to you.

Ha! (Sorry ...... shouldn't laugh ...... that's serious ...... however ...... 😊 )

You need to use the FSS for that. Its also installed free on every ship.
Thanks for that. I've completed my Discovery Scanner Scan of a System, but can't see how to enter the FSS mode. I am using keyboard mapping, but when I check to find the default enter FSS keybind, there isn't one. :( However, there is a "Leave FSS" keybind. Help please. Thank you.

Once you get it working you'll find that detecting bodies with the FSS will change those pesky "unexplored" labels into proper planetary information. You only need to fly across the system to each body if you intend to map them with the DSS.

Yes, understand that about the DSS, and I'm doing that ...... Just hope to stop having to visit every Planet with DSS by using the FSS. ;)
