Newcomer / Intro Introduction

Hello!
I am formerly Commander Pooart of the PlayStation network, recently upgrading to SteamVR and PC.

I got my original Pilot's License in July of this year and knew that I wouldn't be able to put this down. Since, I've put at least a few hundred hours on my ships in the PlayStation Network.

I'm nervous. Starting over with new people is scary, not to mention a friend on PC says I may run into more griefers and trolls in Open Mode, which is the only mode I play in. Such is life though, the game is still incredible.

My new PC should be built by January, I get my HMD in a couple weeks, HTC Vive Cosmos Elite. I'll be using my PS4 Thrustmaster 4 HOTAS and keyboard until I get a Warthog but that won't be for a while (I have a blind cat and a cat with renal failure, my vet bills are OOF!).

IRL: I'm an out of shape engineer in my mid-30s.

In-game: I'm still figuring it out. I normally play chaotic good when it comes to anything roleplaying however, I kind of would like to try my hand as a filthy pirate. I dabbled in being a Fuel Rat on the PlayStation side, so who knows.

I am literally in the process of configuring my HOTAS and then I have to do the tutorial, so I don't expect anyone will see me for a bit.

Welcome, Commander!

Regarding gankers: While it is true there are gankers out there, they're not that bad at all. You are only rarely going to come across them (unless you head to Deciat, where it's largely guaranteed). Don't give them too much head-space. Make sure you have rebuy for your ship (it won't be long before you have enough money to have hundreds of rebuys) and keep your eyes open.
Have fun, Commander! o7

Welcome to the Elite PC Galaxy commander!

Don't worry about gankers too much. This page on Inara.cz shows you where they are active. Usually it's the Community Goals and a hand full of other popular places like Engineers systems (esp. Deciat because new players discover her first). Outside the high threat systems gankers are few and far between.

You already know about the VR subforum? Virtual Reality | Frontier Forums

PS: Inara security page makes no distinction between ganking and consensual PvP but usually the PvP is concentrated in San Tu the official PvP capitol.

This game gets better? You mean, to tell me, the game gets better!?

I don't necessarily consider PSN the darkside, I will say that after five-ish hours on PC, the quality on PC is much better. Textures are more pronounced, FSD wakes look like I would imagine them (On PS4, at least in PSVR, they miss a lot of the color variations, etc, look more like just flat fog). I don't want to poop on PSN too hard because I am at my core a fanboy, but holy mother of pearl, it looks so much better on PC.

I did a PvP community goal in my Anaconda on PSN where the majority of my PvP deaths occurred, outside of that I was only ganked once and I think it was because someone was stream sniping.

I have posted on the VR subforum, a lot of useful information to sift through. I'm still waiting to get my headset before I really dig in. I mainly browsed it so far to make sure I could at least run ED.

Which by the way, funny story, don't google "ED on PC". You won't get the desired results. Ask me how I know, go on, ask me.

I was not aware of that part of Inara. I have a really hard time maneuvering that page. I just now figured out how to find a material trader to upgrade my FSD, but that's on PSN, I'm in a sidewinder on PC still. It will probably be a while before I'm at that point again.

The other thing that makes me really excited about ED on PC vs PS4 is Voice Attack and Astra. I already have an Alexa and being able to program (I assume) macros that I can control with my voice seems SO G RAD.

This game, is so so good. I woke up early on a Saturday to play this all day. All day. This is my life now.
