Those who got their second/third/fiftieth account - what's the plan?

I picked up one - because why not ?
Probably wont use it much, heck I don't even play alts in MMO's - I literally have the same "character" in all games - which is basically just "me" but in whatever setting the games in - the commander I made for the new account is identical to the main one in looks, outfit etc - twin brother ? - alter ego ? - witness protection program perhaps ?
Main use so far was benchmarking the capability of the built in Radeon RX 570x on the spare iMac (Bootcamp obviously) - looks lovely on that monitor - all settings on high at 1440p and 60fps solid everywhere.

Just curious what you have in mind for your alt CMDR... FC fuelling slave, role-playing, ironman playstyle, etc.?

Main account - RP style, was supposed to be a smuggler, ended up as a leader of one of the biggest and most active factions out there :D (also, because smuggling is a massively underdeveloped placeholder since the release :( )
2nd account - RP style, lore-hungry historian, mainly for YouTube video series focused on lore (coming soon).
3rd account - RP style, pirate and murderer, mainly for Twitch live streams, but since mega-ship and installation looting is pretty much completely broken, it's on hold after 2 episodes.
4th account - not started yet. Idea is for a TV-series-like directed movies, but I have no time for this now.

I was thinking of getting an Epic free copy as well, but then decided there is no point, as I will never have time to even look at it.

There is no plan. I have my main account I play not so often. At some point I bought another account for my son. This account lays unused, no need to spawn more. If I ever feel the need of switching CMDRs I already have an account for that.

Acct 1 - (discounted through steam) First 'main account' General purpose (currently out at Sag A*, will go back to Colonia, and take it from there)
Acct 2 - Me! (discounted through steam) Second 'main account'- currently doing 'stuff' in and around the bubble.
Probably only one of the above accounts will be far from the bubble at any time, but neither is tied to a particular centre of operations.

Acct 3 - (discounted through steam) - Game mechanics expiration, sometimes flown (by me) to assist one of the mains. Was intending to keep this account low enough ranked that I'd not have any compunctions resetting it, but that's no longer a concern. I still will not actively rank up this commander. Extra pips would be handy, but I think that's against the rules so will not do it...

Acct 4 - (epic freebie) - Acct that I really have no compunctions resetting for testing purposes.
Acct 5 - (epic freebie) - No plans, but why not :)

It's likely that acct 2 and possibly acct 1 will be into Odyssey at launch. The other three, not.. Maybe Acct 3, when Odyssey gets reasonably discounted it will get it. Acct 4 would need a very deep Odyssey discount to get it...

Iron Man Game. Every time my Epic account's ship is destroyed then New commander and back to the newbie area I go.
Not trying to put you off, but I got inspired by CMDR Isinona's Youtube videos previously and thought I'd replicate that playstyle (so a soft iron-man, basically no insurance). It turned out to be a lot more tedious than I imagined, and I quickly gave up on that. I figure wiping your save every time you die is much worse for obvious reasons... plus I suppose it would also affect your playstyle as you'll become less adventurous by avoiding some of the riskier activities in the game (which is where the fun lies IMO). Either way though, good luck and hope you enjoy!

One surprising thing I ended up doing with my alt account was that I spent quite a while yesterday docked at various starter zone stations chatting with people who needed help for even basic things. There's a lot of new players and it's really great to see them but hey don't half need a lot of advice on how to play the game.

Or it could have been that they're all playing in open and have to queue for ten mins to get docked so have plenty of time to chat.

If you haven't rolled up an alt I'd suggest doing so even if all you do is chat and help others out.

I think I found my stride now finally with my second account. After a reset recently, I initially decided to go with minimalist engineering and ship size, and chose the Imperial Eagle as my single ship, no other ships in my fleet to keep things simple.

After a number of mission runs and some salvaging I realised the ship is simply too small and limited in terms of the versatility my second CMDR requires, given it's supposed to be the only ship they'll be flying.

So I decided to change plans and go with the good old Cobra Mk3, as cliche as that is.

And my word, has it been fun this weekend. I focused on A-rating the FSD first, so had to run a number of missions. Indite sourcing missions in particular were very profitable, but I also benefited from the recent mining commodities rebalancing - found a single ton of Platinum while scavenging, and was able to sell it for over 260k credits, in a station I found by just using the in-game galmap. Very satisfying.

Eventually I had enough cash to upgrade PP, thrusters and the rest, and took the ship to Farseer. In Open, of course. Knowing that the place is a ganker hotspot especially on Sunday evenings, I landed a bit further outside the base, and took the SRV to make the rest of the trip instead, which at some point involved a huge jump across one of the massive ravines that surround the engineer base. Just about made it, absolute blast.

All right underneath the nose of one of the most notorious gankers who was popping noob ships left right and centre.

Upped the jump range to 30ly, and G3'd the thrusters to a respectable ~500m/s boost speed. Not gank proof, but more fun. My credit balance is less than 500k, my rebuy is 270k, and the plan now is to roam the bubble and take in the sights and investigate POI's, tourist beacons, surface sites, megaships and the like. No grind required. It's great.

I'm just starting out on my third full engineers unlock, dude. What have you done to me?

Turns out my machine can run four clients simultaneously on ultra setting (thought I'd test it now it's free and it runs fine with just a bit of stutter, but two can run smoothly). So my third commander is building a turret slf collector magaship to hang out with my main whilst bounty hunting.

I tried to run both copies simultaneously the other day, and my PC can handle it but I think because I used port forwarding in my router/the game the second copy refused to get a connection once in the main menu. Have removed those settings since but didn't try it again... need to revisit this at some point to see if I can provide my main CMDR some company in the cockpit. Really wish FDev would allow NPC crew to fill those chairs instead.
