Open Play - Ship Balance

Hello!

Dear Frontier Development Team, please take a look at current state of open play PvP encounters.

Regular (non-meta) ships are unable to do any considerable damage to min-maxed meta ships, or survive long enough to escape.

That kills any joy of playing in Open Play. If you got interdicted by Fer-de-Lance or Mamba, you are dead, because they got massive amount of shields, superior firepower and speed. Those ships are able to kill any ship except another meta Fer-de-Lance or Mamba in less than 10 seconds.

Please, do something about that.

IF you are (successfully) interdicted - that's actually not so common as you might think from reading around these boards.

Would you believe I have never been interdicted even once, by a player ?

If you take some very basic safety measures it is quite possible to avoid PvP entirely in this game, if you're so inclined :)

What. The awesome "gameplay feature" that is blocking and solo play?

So you are saying I should play open to... avoid players, right? Whats the point, then?

No no, of course you can play in solo, but it is actually not needed.

For starters by far most systems are devoid of players, and those that are not are easy to predict, then it becomes a matter of simple tactics, scout your target system and pick a suitable time to make your entry...

I appreciate your help, but I know how to escape ganks.

I say that the only option for any non-meta ship is to run away. It is not a good gameplay. I want things to be changed.
Can you imagine how balanced it would be if a fully engineered FDL got rekt by your d-rated adder?

Why dont you make a post asking for ideas on how to survive ganks instead of requiring a whole game to change? It's a lot easier

T9 last night in Paratis.

Mamba in SC in front of managed to easily loop behind me regardless so submit. Couple of tickles with laser on 1st ring then bang! 65% hull left but by then they had actually boosted past me...too late Im already gone, see ya. Just boring for me, no chat no fun, no excitement just ABC yawn escape. I may just block these no hopers in future. Admittedly I did then dock and engineer the shields ready for the next time in Remote Engineering.

How long do you need to survive to escape? Thats the only thing that matters. If you didnt have to line up for the jump you could do it with eyes close. Its the same buttons in the same sequence at the same time every single time.

That is a feature of ED - excluding very unusual happenings, the better ship wins the battle, the consequence of that is as you say...

If you're NOT the bigger fish, you run or evade :)

"Even" contests between players are rare, and usually arranged beforehand.

I want things to be changed.

What if attacker accidently brings FSD-Disruptor rockets? Oh no, you cant high-wake anymore, die!

They still need to hit you, which is easier said than done with dumbfires and a target that has any sense.

Things can get tricky if there are multiple agile vessels with FSD disruptors and emissive weapons, but there is still a cool down, and most ships can survive long enough to escape from most wings.

no, it is even more stupid than that.
either you sit in a ship, which can't survive.
Or you sit in a ship, they can't kill (for its speed or staying power until highwake).
Which means, the balance in open is so that there is either no risk for the attacker, or no risk for the attacked (I loved blockade running pre-engineering at CGs. Today its boring, because it's risk free in the correct build).

i took one and sustained the attack of a 4-wing gank until i was able to jump again. They barely scratched my shields and i made fun of their (dis)ability later.

My T9 (which I don't normally ever use in busy systems in Open, much less so a CG) doesn't even have a shield, but has some hull and reinforced modules. It won't withstand a determined ganker, but relying on shields is dangerous in such a slow ship due to reverb torps being a thing.

I usually do trade CGs in a Cutter, the safest ship in the game. Even though it feels wrong to use such a classy vessel for carrying goods only. Ho hum.
