Aquatic Pack: This time, it's the little things too

So, for me, this is the first dlc that I can 100% say I am equally as excited for the scenery items as I am for the actual animals.

I think that the new ice looks much better than the Gatorade looking stuff we had before. I don't care if they're new, or they just updated the look of the old Arctic pack stuff, I'm happy to have it either way.

The new rock set is just....perfect! The sleek design, the light gray coloring... it reminds me a lot of the ZT2 custom mod (I think AD made it) that added a freshwater biome to the game. These new rocks remind of those, and I've been waiting for something like this for a long time. I think they'll look equally at home in a frigid King penguin habitat themed around Antarctica, a rocky coastal exhibit for Gray seals, or even something as simple as a stream high up in the mountains for a Red panda or Grizzly bear habitat.

The new building set actually excites me rather than disappoints me. Chante said herself they took a lot of input from the community when making the "modern" theme, which I think is great. These new pieces should have much more versatility than the niche South American ruins or Australian Outback pieces.

The emphasis on animal artwork excites me as well. I feel this has been pretty lacking so far, both in the base game and in the previous dlcs. Artwork is what truly makes your zoo start to feel like a real zoo, and I sincerely hope they continue to place just as much importance on it going forward. I'd love to get a sort of animal artwork "booster" as part of a free update, for animals that have been left out of getting their own artwork, or even for some of the dlc animals who don't have enough.

So yeah, this will easily surpass the Arctic dlc as my favorite dlc, and I can say that without even getting my hands on it.

100% agree, really like this zoo theme and the nature theme to not just build shops and guest areas, but more importantly, finally more stuff to build enclosures too. Excellent work on the pieces in this pack.

Absolutely agree. The thing about this pack and the free update is that it's a combination of all the right small pieces together. In a way, this definitely feels like a community pack.

The free update offers animal talks and diving. Two highly requested things by the majority of the community. Then the aquatic pack features highly requested animals. The building pieces are going to be more versatile this time around. We get a new font. For the first time, we have an aquatic exhibit that could potentially open new possibilities for actual aquariums in the future. A lot of this stuff is something we have been wanting for a long time. If this is the direction PZ is taking, then I think we can expect many more packs and updates which will reflect the wishes of the community. Also, it's pretty exciting that we get the caiman and the giant otter, both animals are native to South America. Our SA rooster is expanding and it's not even a SA pack - this alone makes me very curious about the future DLCs.

I agree with you, I think this pack will end up being my favorite. I think the caiman is such a nice surprise. So yeah, next Tuesday can't come fast enough!

I was absolutely overjoyed when I saw the announcement, because the Marine dlc of ZT2 was my all-time favorite. I really hope that they'll add aquatic exhibits in the (near?) future as well, so you can showcase species of fish (saltwater please!) and other marine life (coral reefs and such, which really fits the conservation idea quite well).

Just as a point of order, king penguins don't really live in Antarctica - they inhabit the cold, rocky islands around the edge of the Antarctic Ocean.
Do you think PZ will still classify them as being from Antarctica though? Or are the islands on differing tectonic plates from the Antarctic plate? Just wondering what you think

I knew that this Species lives on Islands near Antarctica but I didn't know that they don't live directly on the Continent, so thanks for teaching me that. I wonder if there are also Plants from these Islands in the DLC or Update

Depends on the subspecies. But I think most of them inhabit the islands south of Argentina, so there is a higher chance of them getting South-America. Or South America and Oceania.

Red: Aptenodytes patagonicus patagonicus
Yellow: Aptenodytes patagonicus halli
