GALNET - 07 DEC 3306 - Lakon Spaceways Discounts Selected Ships

It's a strange move, because the problem with many of these ships is generally not their price
  • you have to pay five times as much to get anything that hauls even slightly more than a T-7
  • you have to pay ten times as much to get a fighter-capable ship which isn't a Keelback
  • the T-10 is already the cheapest of the large multirole(ish) ships
  • the DBS is already the cheapest ship with four utility mounts
They're mostly pretty good value already for what they do, it's just that what they do is a very specific niche. Not that Lakon can do much to make those niches more popular, of course.

The Asp Scout I agree is overpriced [1] - largest power distributor on a 2M2S fighter should be a neat selling point, if it wasn't paired with "oversized target profile and 8x the cost" compared with the Viper IV - at something like 1M it'd be competing with the T-6 as a more combat-oriented version of that sort of spec and size, and that'd be perfectly reasonable.

[1] To the extent that price is more than marginally relevant anyway.

Asp and Diamondback. Two useless crack addicts who share a cardboard box in the same alley. The Asp's favorite line from Predator is "Kill me, I'm here, kill me!" and the Diamondback with its non-enhanced thursters and tiny fuel scoop is just sad.

I'd actually use a keelback if it had a bit better jump range. Basically make it into a stealthy, long-range fighter deployment platform. Trouble is, the krait does that better and can do other stuff besides , so there's no point in really bothering.

I've owned almost every ship in the game but never had a keelback. Might buy one just to try it out as a prisoner transport ship or a space truck. Of course my first real space truck was a type6 and I sold that years ago, had fun in it but moved on when I could afford a python. I don't care about the discount, I've just never considered a keelback, I forget about some ships and this thread sparked my memory.
Same here. My T6 was my first long term ship. Even took her for a 12000ly round trip to finance my AspX. T6 fan club needs more members!

so - how are prices in jameson or LYR space affected?
I'm in a LYR space and you only get 40m off.
T-10 goes for 85.1m Cr over the full price of 124,755,342. That's 30% off.

Panshin Ring, Fiden [vs. inara.cz/shipyard]

Diamondback Scout - 327,382 CR [564,330]
Keelback - 1,813,561 CR [3,126,150]
Asp Scout - 2,297,965 CR [3,961,150]
Type-7 Transporter - 10,136,091 CR [17,472,260]
Type-10 Defender - 72,373,694 CR [124,755,342]

Better, but not 47.5% in total (-30% CG -15% LYR - 2.5% Elite).

So... was this the surprise coming in December? Sounds like bit of a downer to me if it was.
