Game Discussions Cyberpunk 2077 - official gameplay

My 10 pences' worth having played 3.6 hours yesterday evening. 😋

+ It runs pretty well (2560x1440) considering my aged system, but I have to crank the CPU fans on high to keep it below 70! Haven't had a framecounter on yet, maybe later.
(Core i7-2600K @ 3.4GHz, 16Gb RAM & GTX 1070Ti on high settings with motion blur off)
  • Great looking world, and NC is amazing, claustrophobic, alien-yet-familiar
  • I am thinking about it and want to fire up the game again - always a good sign!

  • Hmm. AI drivers / traffic. Very odd behaviour. Rockstar have had driving AI pretty much perfected, so this is really disappointing. Cars just stop and queue for no apparent reason.
  • I chose the Nomad start, but then found myself straight into Night City on the Jackie mission. I guess I should have just explored the badlands for a bit, and seen what the Sheriff could do. So maybe user error, in part.

Anyways, I have a whooole Friday night in with it as the other half is working a night at the post office, and I can't wait!

Spongyness:
I think we had a similar problem in the table-top balancing body armour. Our GM didn't use the rulebook rules. Instead body armour was more like additional health layer over your real health. Which meant we were needing new armour all the time. Best mileage was with AP ammo - less dmg vs health but it circumvented the armour sponging. Original rules were: Armour reduces incoming damage by its AV. Excessive damage lowers the AV eventually.

Is DLSS an option in-game or a graphics driver setting? I had to look up what that acyromn meant and aside from the technical jargon... (it just makes it look nicer by supersampling intelligently).

As you can tell, I've avoided 99.5% of the hype surrounding this game to avoid spoilers. It's getting increasingly hard to do this now given the hype levels. The only footage I've forced myself to view is the "official" release video which, to be honest, wasn't amazing. Previously I think I viewed some very early coverage when they started talking about this game (I think that was a year or two back when they released a first view of the gunplay).
Yeah, DLSS is an option in game.

To be honest, I never understood the name. It should be called downsampling, not supersampling (but that wouldn't sound as cool, I guess). It's a gimmick that renders the game in lower than native resolution so it runs better. Basically it's a gimmick that helps cover up the fact that the current technology isn't ready for the ray tracing gimmick.

As for the hype and co. - well, I really, really love the game and I fully recommend it, but of course, it's not a Jesus of all games that will change everything. It's just a really good game. :)

Picked it up this morning, did a very long, but also very on-rails story mission with long periods as spectator, and now act II has started... Given that there are only 2 acts, I think this is going to be much shorter than what I hoped.

I think the main story will be realtively short if you race through it, but I think act 1 is basically just a prologue. I'm far enough in that Keanu Reeves has started to popup and I feel like I've barely scratched the surface.

plus there's tons of side quests.

<<< Quietly hides every game CD and DVD I’ve ever owned behind the couch.
  • preordered the first day box thingy (for the map to pin on a wall)
  • postman wasn't allowed to hand it over yesterday (they're not permitted to verify ID due to 'rona), so the box is still at the post office (gonna pick it up after that conference call...)
  • realized this morning that I don't have a single optical disc player left in the house o_O (just checked the description - the download code shoudn't need any disc🤞, but I got no idea what I should do with the audio CD...)

The character I made didn't have any genitals. I minmaxed it's appearance for combat. Female body because it looked like a smaller hitbox. No hair, no pericings, and most certainly no genitals, as these are all potential handholds. Plus, subdued, urban camouflage coloration.
Female body...genitals...handholds 🤔
Are you sure you're on the right website?

I honestly I didn't race through at all, like the Witcher games I'm taking my sweet time with stuff. However many avenues seem to have opened up now shortly after act II has started, the phone keeps ringing lol so act II may very well be much larger than the first. It makes sense too, as looking at things like the skill and perks etc I have barely scratched the surface.

Yeah, I'm a bit overwhelmed by side quests and phone calls/messages. I don't know what to do next 😆

Even the AI Limo that drove us to the hotel is giving me missions now :ROFLMAO:

That is actually my favorite NPC character so far :D
Thinking about it I reckon that is what elevates CDPR above the likes of Ubisoft. Ubisoft games never have anything as surprising as a talking car/Limo service that has character and can give missions. I'm sure the game will be packed with more surprises and cool Characters like Witcher 3 was.

I'm finding the combat reminds me too much of everything I hated about the Division..both in bullet sponge enemies but also the ridiculous weapon leveling and loot sytem. Besides that, I'm randomly just bimbling my way around the entire map investigating stuff whilst ignoring the storyline and secondary quests for the moment....not that I'm not enjoying the story or anything...I just like the freedom to be able to chose when I continue it.

Apart from unsuccessfully trying to steal Jackie's bike early on...I eventually repatriated a gang members' Arch after prying the keys from his dead fingers.Suitably armed with proper two wheeled transport, I wandered off to have a look at the countryside...

Met the lovely Panam during a quest mission...there's just something about a girl wrestling with a carburetor that makes my heart flutter...

I think they spent too much time on that realism and forgot about combatt and driving.

Theres another 100mill worth of ideas for old Crobbler in CP2077.

Love that guy and his progressive open PC development.

What difficulty do you play on?
Normal...started a character on easy just to see if it made much of a difference...it doesn't very much. However...later on in my gameplay on the first save I found a pistol that does silly damage which makes the combat a tad less Division like. 2 or 3 head shots with it will kill anything, a single shot if I'm sneaking about... also found my favourite quick hack...Contagion. Once the first enemy is infected, it spreads through all visible enemies or those linked via the network killing them all without me even moving from cover. Clearing an entire area with one hack on a single NPC makes the stealth option briliant :)

Hunting down the rogue taxi cabs is so far my favourite side activity.
I loved the suicidal one, and the GLaDoS impostor.

It was a great surprise that they actually made a real character out of Del and it also made me realize that basically all characters I've met are really great and give off a nice feeling of depth even after just a short conversation.

One of the favourite things about the game so far is probably the way dialogues happen and it took me a long while to realize WHY. To have a freedom of movement during the convos really makes them feel... real. Not a scripted/cinematic event, but a real conversation between people. You walk up to a person and start talking, you go check their music collection and posters in the corner, look around their appartment, sit next to them,... all that while still talking to them. I think that's just a brilliant way of doing the interactions and while I generally don't think CP2077 to be the "revolution in gaming" some people were suggesting, I do feel like this is one of the innovative approaches that should be more widely used in future games.
Mass Effect immediately springs to mind - another game with great characters and well-written dialogues, but looking back at them in light of CP2077 way of doing it, they feel artificial in comparison.
