Air is getting thin for Star Citizen

Well fellows I baked ED 6 or 7 years ago as well as Star Citizen (Rear Admiral).

But if I see now the great improvements in quality of the graphics and gameplay in Odyssey and all of what we already have in Elite Dangerous I fear that I will never put on my Rear Admiral uniform in Star Citizen.

The single player fight mode in Odyssey looks fantastic also compared to those I have seen in Star Cititzen.

Instead Star Citizen seems to be still years away from beta phase. So the modular development of ED seems to be a far better concept than to put everything in at Game Launch like they try it in Star Citizen since almost a decade..

And as a half Greek I very much like the name of this new Update ‚ODYSSEY‘! :)

To be fair, we have not seen yet what Odyssey will be like. Yes Frontier have shown us stuff, but until we can see and feel it for ourselves, we need to hold off comparisons with other games.

From a design standpoint that's absolutely true. But as far as generating interest and sales, sadly pushing out a half baked game seems to be the way (see SC and NMS)

Sometimes I wish FD had gone the same route. When I look at the 200k views for the new Odyssey trailer, thinking it should be at least a few million. Those suits ripped from Mass Effect would've generated a lot of interest from potential early adopters wanting a Mass Effect Online type of game, instead they saw a spaceship simulator, and sadly the chance to grab their attention has passed.

Mass Effect is action RPG, not an online looter shooter. I don't think many ME players would happily grind FD's hamsterwheels - they are looking for stories, characters and in the face combat with badass commander.

A friend of mine has already dropped 300 quid on SC, I think he is nuts.
He does however still try to get me to buy into it despite no firm release even for 2021.

I'd rather stay here in Elite.

The beauty is that we can play both.

My worry with Star Citizen at the moment is that as it starts to look a bit more last gen they've got enough money to start rebuilding their engine from scratch again. A bit like a mega-budget Limit Theory.
