Logging New Crystalline Shard sites into the Codex?

Hi All,
On my current jolly into the black I have just found two planets next to each other that have crystalline shard sites (one planet for Tellurium and one for Technetium). But I don't know how to get these registered in the Codex? Nothing I seem to do seems to add them!

I have tried scanning the Biological site from my ship (Composition Scanner) and from the SRV on the crystalline shards themselves. It seems to have confirmed it as a sulphur dioxide fumerole system (Sanguineous Rim, PREAE THAE NS-T D3-2) though rather than as crystalline shard sites (which are on planets C1c and C1d)???

Any suggestions please? Is this as intended or a bug with the codex?

This ^^^. Codex reports 1st discovery location and the Cmdr that found it, and underneath the 1st location YOU discover it (not always the same).

it's intended. only your first sighting of something in a region gets added to your codex.

also - this thread might do better in the exploration subforum :)

???
But its not been added - that's the point???
Or at least - its been added as something else - not what I scanned. Are you saying that any system entry can only have 1 item found in that system entered into the Codex?

No, a lot of Cmdrs expected that when the Codex was announced which is in large part why so many don't rate it that highly.

That and the bazillion bugs it has.

And the rumours which have never been used.

Did mention all the bugs? There's (sadly) a lot associated with the Codex.

With crystal shard site you need to scan one of the crystals, the sites will report both volcanic and biological signatures, but you need to scan each one separately. Scanning one of the fumaroles will give you the volcanic entry, then you need to scan one of the individual shards to get the bio entry.

And has been said they don't always appear in the codex, however you can check using EDSM if you have anything that reports discoveries such as EDDiscovery, there are a few programs that do. Once that's done it will appear in the codex on the EDSM site as an entry;

Just select your region, set the distance marker as distance from CMDR or a particular system and select crystaline shards from the drop down list, it should show all sites within a certain range, just check to see if your system and planet is listed there.

There are third-party sites (like Canonn) that tack all known occurrences of certain phenomena, but there's nothing in-game to do that.

Without being a tracker for all found discoveries by cmdrs... It makes the Codex a joke! Thanks for the reply.

I use ED Discovery and the crystalline shard entry did appear in the listing there... Just not in the actual in-game Codex. I couldn't find it in EDSM either, as I use that as a means of accessing the codex outside of the game. I have both of my cmdrs on EDSM which EDDiscovery update.
Thanks for the reply! Very informative!

I did wonder if Cannon tracked these discoveries, perhaps through the EDMC, but that would be very hit and miss as I doubt many explorers would bother loading it on PC and would be a non-starter on the consoles. How do Cannon track such finds as I can't see how they would pick up the data?

CannonN has its own edmc plug-in running for that. yes, if more people would install and use it, that would mean more data. it is still a lot!

as with all canonn science it is open to all, for exampel a map of crystalline shards from that data can be found here: https://map.canonn.tech/cs-data.html

i won't argue that the ingame codex would be even more usefull, if it would track all discoveries of a commander - at least everything you get a voucher for.

EDSM does track Codex discoveries - but there's a considerable delay for all I know (AFAIK to filter out spoofing).
IGAU runs a separate Codex collection as well.

When it comes to the Codex, I'd also like to have at least a "Show 10 nearest {Codex entry}" instead of having only a single per type and Galactic Region.
Showing all, though, might be a tad difficult with the existing in-game UI.

I have the EDMC-Cannon pluggin already - although, tbh, I often forget to start up EDMC when I play ED :whistle:

I love that heat map of the galaxy!!! Saved for later use! Thank you! I'll look into this site more.

I had no idea that there were more than 3,300 Crystalline Shard enteries!!!

EDSM used to allow a galaxy wide search in their codex, however it's now limited by a maximum range of 5,000ly, probably due to the amount of data in the database now.
