Detailed Surface Scanner

Dear FDev,

I am in the starter systems trying to understand the different career paths that are available to me so that I can go out and make my mark on the galaxy. One of those paths appears to be exploration. While attempting this I found that I can not explore exploration. There is no station in the starter systems that sells the detailed surface scanner. Is this intentional? Will there be a time where that will be available in the future?

That is correct. However a new player in the starter systems can not, in that beginning environment, test out all the tools for exploration. If they leave the starter systems and dock at one of those stations then that is it. They can't go back. I think the starter systems are permit locked to allow a new player the opertunity to get to know how to use the tools they will need moving forward. While I can understand why FDev would not have a Frame Shift Drive Interdictor for sale I don't understand the decision to exclude the DSS.

The best way to figure it all out is to use Inara to plan your ship loadout, then clivk yhe little S icon at the top left that brings up "Stations that sell this build", so you can get everything at one station. Don't forget to ener your location in the "Reference system" box towards the bottom left of the page. My advice is to go to the high resource extraction site in Fromi to help the police kill the bad guys, which gets you about 5 million cr per hour. Use the money to buy a proper explorer ship or a T6

Thank you for trying to be helpful. I want to know if FDev has intentionally excluded the opportunity to learn about this equipment and how to use it in the starter systems, and if so are they willing to consider allowing access to the equipment to new commanders in an environment where they can "safely" test it out?

So it seems. Plenty of chance to use it once you are out.

Edit: Lots of other modules are not in the starter system - prospector limpets etc. which make mining pointless in there. The starter area is not for life, when it feels restrictive time to move on.
