Whats the best rocks to mine now?

So I heard deep rock mining received a huge nerf recently, but it is apparently still profitable but not enough to get 100m+ from a single run.

Last time I did mining, void opal seems to be the thing, I stopped because even though the money was good, it was just too mind numbingly boring.

So now with the nerf is void opals still the best?

Deep core mining didn't recive a nerf, neither did laser mining, except for Painite, that payed way to much.

EDIT: I should say that Low Temperature Diamonds also got a nerf in price. Both LTDs and Painite can be both laser mined as well as Core mined.

Nowdays, when it comes to laser mining, Painite, Platinum and Osmium are well worth mining; makes the mining run go faster. I personally mine Gold, Silver, Osmium, Painite, Platinum and Palladium. It's free money, and... above all, Painite prices got nerfed, but the rest got a HUGE boost.

When it comes to Core mining, Void Opals might still be the best, but most of the Core-only mining minerals are close to a million and above it. The market fluctuates a lot with these, so there isn't just "one" ore that is worth mining...

The number one thing holding Core mining back is that the Pulse Wave Analyzer has been broken for a couple of months. News are that FDev will release a fix for this on the 16:th of December... tomorrow.

Do yourself a favour and go to Inara and have a look and see on all the mined materials.

I've been paying more attention to Rhodplumsite, Monazite and Serendibite lately. Along the way I also take Painite, Osmium, Samarium, Gold, Silver and other "secondary" money minerals as they crop up, mainly because they occur in SSD as well as intrinsic (laserable) lodes. I rarely mine for Icy ring minerals other than Tritium these days, which usually also yields small tonnages of VOs, LTDs and other core minerals. My mining operations are long term and I have FC storage, however, so this might not be a viable solution for ship-only miners who may need to optimize their take in terms of market values.

Finding a good place to sell is a problem (for me.. still figuring how to without Inara active data nowadays).

I think most miners turns off EDMarketConnector when they are about to find a "gold rush". But, Inara still have good data on the ballpark for both laser mined and Core mined minerals and their potential value.

If you have spare hold space and fairly near bubble or Colonia, Bromellite is also worth a look at.

Where did you get these news from? I haven't heard anything about a fix coming soon for the PWA.

Probably Brighton... (For the non-brits, Brighton is a seaside town that sells sticks of a confectionery called rock).

Seriously? Damn PWA is getting fixed before:
  • broken megaship looting
  • broken research limpets
  • broken smuggling

... all of which have been broken longer???
You should read the news thread - your acolytes complained about most of them already :)

(Though personally I can't see the "fix everything or nothing" method ever catching on)

I'm not really asking for everything to be fixed... rather, I'm asking for breakfixes of equal consequence to be dealt with on a FIFO basis.

  • Thargoid tissue sampling could be a good income source, if tissue sampling worked. I estimate around 100m/h for a competent sampling regime.
  • Smuggling would definitely be a viable alternative, with smuggling profits in the order of 5-7k/t, if it were working
  • megaship looting... well... yeah... that needs more than a fix... and...
  • Core mining could be viable, if the PWA were working.

If smuggling were fixed as quickly as the PWA was fixed, it would have been fixed before the PWA issue even occurred. The fact it's still outstanding after the PWA was broken and subsequently fixed is, well, pretty atrocious.

Put some numbers on how many are affected. Based on how many are complaining.

Sampling - maybe 3 players.
M/s looting - maybe 10
Smuggling - < 10
Mining - thousands

Not saying I wouldn't like them fixed, but seriously. It's not difficult to see why they would fix the pwa first, especially when they don't want to remove effort from odyssey unless they really have to.

But think about why those numbers exist.

Nobody samples tissue for credits, because it's broken.
Smuggling doesn't have many doing it, because it's broken.
MM looting again.

I remember when the moneymaking meta was torval-archon slave runs (which lol... got nerfed quick even though it got 5k/t).... i also remember when palin missions out of obsidian were a good one, then they got the nerfbat too.

Popularity of an issue is a horrible metric for deciding what to fix because players work around broken mechanics where they can, and abandon them when they can't... broken mechanics are unpopular mechanics. The only reason why the PWA was on the radar so much was because mining maintained its popularity through the laser painite/LTD meta.

You can be assured I'd actually be out there with "Jmanis' hot tips for tissue farming" and actually trying to make it popular, if it worked... but there's only so far i can go with "here's a great way to feel like wanting to throw your computer out a window"... my last test was a roughly 20% success rate.

Imagine if only 20% of asteroids yielded the ore they did they would, but you had to mine the asteroid to find that out?

Odyssey is leading with a xeno/bio research career right? How can they with tissue sampling broken. We even got betancourt *despite * this bug still existing.

Yeah. I know. This is called "pulling a rubbernuke". It's when you demand one change, fully knowing that it's the first step in a set of changes but hoping fdev don't spot it :)

So you don't want just m/s looting fixed, but also the payout rebalanced. Then probably fdev would need to stop relog farming, etc etc. I'd still say mining is a larger profession than looting, even before they turned it into cash fountain <shrug>
