Newcomer / Intro More help please.

Hi guys, I've completed the control lessons and trying to complete the first scanning lesson. I've done what I was instructed, hit RT to scan, but not receiving any further instruction from the CMDR. Don't know where to go from here. Help please - thanks

You have your datalink scanner on trigger 1 (primary fire). Whatever button you have bound to trigger 1, press and hold until the scan is complete.

Thanks. I use a Xbox controller for ship control L/R U/D, the rest on a keyboard. I couldn't get my mouse to work properly ingame. "trigger 1" not sure what that is, I just use whatever they say on the right screen. I think my main problem is NOT holding the keys long enough until the scan is completed. I'm about to give it another go.

In game you have two triggers for firing weapons or scanners or whatever, you can assign what is fired by which trigger in one of the tabs in the right hand screen in the cockpit, in the options controls menu you can assign/change which keys/buttons operate which trigger.

In the righthand screen it tells me to scan using either mouse 1 or RT, as my mouse doesn't work ingame, I use my keyboard, so when I press "RT" together and hold, the target dives under the ship. I'm not far off giving up on this.

I don’t think you can bind two letter keys to a command, is RT the right hand trigger on the Xbox controller?

I think RT stands for Right Trigger.
So hold down your right trigger button on your Xbox controller and see if that works. It’ll take a couple of seconds of holding it down to complete the scan.

Thanks for that, my problem now is.......This my first time at gaming and on my Xbox controller 2 sticks and a multitude of other buttons, which one is the right trigger? Do you know where I can find a graphic of the controller that shows what relates to what? Sorry to be a pain.

Not me I am afraid, I have never owned any sort of console or its controller, obviously it will be the one on the right of the controller but which one is a trigger I wouldn't know.

But a little googling found this.

The default bindings in the games has so many modifiers that the edrefcard graphic is just about unreadable:

I don't use my gamepad in elite (some use it just for the SRV) I mainly used it for NMS and nowadays I leave it plugged-in 'cos the golf game doesn't like it being absent - even though I don't use it in that either.

BTW - there is also an Xbox Elite controller, layout graphic here: https://edrefcard.info/device/XBoxElite

See what you mean. Thanks I finally understand the Xbox controller some confusion for me, between "trigger" and "bumper" . With blowing up those containers, is there anything special I need to do there. I have tried varying the distance and shooting the sh*t out of them, in the circle, but they don't blow up.

Assuming you are still referring to the tutorial I show how to do this at the 12:40 point in my video (I'll attach it below at the right time stamp).

You need to first of all target the thing you want to shoot - you should see the Guillemets (angle-brackets / chevrons)* appear around it in the HUD and in the lower left you can see it show up in your target hologram.

As you shoot it you can see the hull health of the capacitor reduce beneath the target hologram - it then blows up at 0% and the hologram clears to an exclamation mark (ecphoneme).

The same targeting is used for anything you need to interact with (shoot, scan or collect).

You can hit things without targeting them - as I did with the second capacitor - so I don't know why you were unable to do so. In combat when using gimballed weapons it is often useful to "untarget" your enemy if they are chaffing - by doing so you are effectively using the weapons as fixed ones and thus defeat the chaffing.

* There is a bug that causes these not to show sometimes - I don't know of a work-round for this years-old bug.
