Game Discussions Star Citizen Discussion Thread v12

They can't show SQ42 progress - meant to be the priority - yet they found time and workforce to make... This?!
Perhaps the animators of SQ42 have finished their job and have nothing else to do ? CIG have plenty of millions to spend, so instead of firing them, they give them new tasks ?

The universe (the real one) is always expanding. Technically everything in it is also expanding, so the statement is objective true, even if no progress is ever made on the game.
In fact everything inside universe is not expanding. Anything bound tightly enough by gravitation or other forces (like our galaxy, our solar system, stars and planets themselves and so on) is not expanding at all.

Yes, in our projects whenever a team finishes the job they were hired to do we do not release them either, we prefer to keep wasting money with them and give them whatever to do aswell. We never bother to plan properly task sequences back to back either. Since we also have plenty of millions to spend might aswell waste them. Investors will never know right?

Fans are making a lot of fuss about the new SC video, but man, its beyond a homage to Star Wars, they've basically copied everything about Star Wars, from sounds, to style, to set pieces. And of course the stormtrooper level of incompetence from the bad guys. And tropes... so many tropes.

CIG once again demonstrating they can do pretty, but also don't have an original creative bone in their collective body.

For those who haven't seen it (and i'd say it is worth watching, just pretend you're watching Star Wars and you'll be good to go)

“Oh my God! This game looks awesome! Hurry up and take my money!” - Says some poor soul who’s unfamiliar with Star Citizen.

Sure, gaming companies pull this kind of crap all the time, and gamers fall for it... but this kind of slick marketing campaign is one of the many signs that this project isn’t an incompetently managed mess, but a competently managed scam designed to money from the pockets or the naive, and into the coffers of the Roberts clan.

And you have no problems with this?

There's a reason why competent game development studios save this kind of polish for last: because its pointless to have staff sitting around idle with no work to do. CIG isn't an established game studio that can have a small team working on the core development of their next game, while the studio's artists put the polish on the current game they're working on. They're building their studio from the ground up, remember? That means they can start hiring artists when they need them.

All CIG needs at this stage of development is a handful of artists for prototyping purposes, because until the core of the game is actually finished, any polish put into the game would be wasted thanks to having to redo the work. Again. But a game engine that's actually capable of doing the job they need it to do doesn't sell millions of expensive JPG space ships, does it?

CIG have plenty of millions to spend, so instead of firing them, they give them new tasks ?
And you have no problems with this kind of waste either?

Remember how Chris Roberts promised not to spend money on marketing, and as a result each dollar given to CIG would be worth five in publisher's hands? Well, CIG has been producing these kinds of slick marketing videos almost from the start. And it's pretty obvious these are not machinima videos either, given the state of the game. These are independently created CGI videos.

CIG is unique among the early access games I'm familiar with, in the sheer amount of unique promotional material produced to promote this project. One of the advantages early access has over traditional game development is that word of mouth, spontaneously generated by lets players who are clearly enjoying themselves, and not shilling for CIG, is the marketing of their game. But CIG can't rely on that, because they clearly haven't finalized the core of the game. No matter how polished game may look in screen shots, it doesn't take too long watching a livestream to see just how bad things really are.

I think its safe to say it serves one primary purpose: 'sell' smuggler/criminal to players/would be players. with a secondary mission to cement in their minds the idea of the Mercury as the Smugglers archetype ship by appealing to as many Star Wars concepts and 'member berries as possible

We even had smuggling compartments in the second part.
