PvE Python build...

Hello All, some of the "influencers" here pushed me over the line to try combat... Not sure yet if I love you or hate you for that...

I am building PvE Python - repurposed from mining. I have fully upgraded FSD, upgraded power plant. I need some suggestions how to upgrade Power Distributor and what kind of flashy weapons would be the best choice. Power distributor can be either popular charge enhanced with super conduit or - for PvE build - weapon focused with cluster capacitors... As for the weapons, I don't want to kit the ship out with any sort of cannons as this will require me to restock from time to time. Lasers should be enough I believe - but what lasers: pulse, burst or beam?? And obviously how to engineer those in the future...

Suggestions please...

I have combat Python I like to use on occasion with all lasers, and it's a very capable ship. So far as PD, charge enhanced super conduit all the way, frequent boosts and power for shield regen (assuming big bi-weaves) are nice, and that 7 PD can handle its hard points pretty well.

I'd have to check to be positive on exactly what lasers I'm using, but pretty sure it's 2 large burst and 2 medium beams on top, and a large pulse on the bottom. They are all long range with thermal vent on the beams & emissive on the pulse. It obviously does fine against shields, for tougher enemies with big hulls some PP sniping will speed up kills. Fall off really hurts lasers, and a beefed up Python isn't exactly dictating engagement distances so that's why I went with them. It's nice to start nailing an enemy from 4 or 5 KM out and have their shields down by the time they are firing back. Long range are also easy to engineer as G5 really isn't needed, not to suggest they are the clearly superior option either though.

That bottom large is also a great spot for one mc or frag with corrosive to help with hulls.

Edit: Checked my build and it has 3 Large Pulse long range, 1 medium pulse long range emissive, and 1 medium long range thermal vent beam, pretty sure I added the beam because 5 pulses got it a tad hot after extended fire.

There's no perfect build in everyone's eyes, of course but...

My Python kicks butt in PvE. I use it all the time...

There's always room to tweak a build.
If you are looking for a dedicated PvE combat build, I'd suggest you consider a Chieftain or another ship that's pretty obviously dedicated. The Python is a great multipurpose ship. There is a good reason that it's the single most-owned ship in the game. I use mine for running missions and combat but if I plan to go for pure combat, I go get my Chief!

I have also heard nothing but good stuff about the Krait Mk II. I'll certainly give that ship a try some time!

I’ll third the krait my II
Plenty of power for shield boosters, scb.
With g5 thrusters you’ll be able to keep targets in siights

how to upgrade Power Distributor
Charge enhance, cluster capacitors

I'd personally go for 3 beams and 2 multis. Or keep at least one beam with long range - thermal vent, just so you have free heatsync.
Multicannons you can go with efficient with autoloader or get one high capacity with corrosive (corrosive experimental doesn't stack, so one is enough).
If you want all lasers, you'll have to play in coriolis a bit, but I'd still have at least one LR-TV beam for cooling.

Thrusters mandatory G5 dirty drag drives, anything else is blasphemy.
Long range sensors so you can spot npcs further.

As for shields, probably bi-waves with balanced out resistances (again coriolis comes into play).

I'm throwing in two plasma slug long range rails here.
Gives options against chaffing, very good range, hitscan, trains you fixed aim and with the large Python fuel tank you get many many shots out of it.

i have a BGS focused python, which can do all, including high CZ at once. 160t of cargo as well.

weapons are: large burst under belly, longrange g1 - 2 large pulses up, one with emissive for better gimbal tracking, medium ammo increased MC to apply corrosive effect, and ammo increased seekers to strip chaff of get rid of fighters. works.

a more interesting combatloadout i have flown some years ago in a python is 3 large frags plus 1 pulse + 1 mc corrosive.

Hard to go wrong with a Python. Plenty of power for any build.

I prefer 3 large beams ( LR and Thermal Vent ), and 2 medium MCs ( both corrosive ).

This.

It really is hard to go wrong with a Python.

If you're new to combat, it's probably best to keep it simple.
I'd suggest 3x C3 Efficient Beams and then 2xC2 Long Range MCs.

Regarding the PDist, I always fit the biggest A-rated PDist possible to my combat ships, charge-enhanced and with cluster capacitors.
Weapon focused might sound like a good idea but it doesn't leave you much power for repeated boosts, either to chase targets or run away if required.

Python is just fine for PvE, I just don't like how it flies compared to my Krait MKII. But pity the NPC who interdicts me when I'm in the mood for a little fun while doing a cargo run...

Edit: I go with a large fixed pulse laser, 2 medium fixed beams, and 2 large gimballed MCs.

i'd second it is not the best ship to have combat fun for most commanders.

disregarding the smalls i really love to fly, i'd always prefer a fdl (largest fighter!), fas (a machine!), chieftain (generic...), dropship (that drift! that atmo!), krait, clipper, ...

a python might prepare for the executive style of piloting a corvette.

and it is lovely what it can do at once. mobile living room

Not sure yet. Is it is my first attempt at combat so repurposing Python makes sense for me but I see A LOT of suggestions to go for Krait MK2 as well..
I can understand that. One of the main reasons I recommended the Chieftain is that it is amazingly cheap to buy and repair compared to the Python or Krait. No disagreement with staying with your Python from me; it's a very fine PvE ship.

Yes. I like super-pen though. Shields down, get distance and kill the power plant. Very effective except against another python. For some reason i cant ever get the PP knocked out on them before the whole ship os about to pop anyway.

Krait Mk 2 is a little better than the Python for pure combat, so I'd suggest going that way. But both are great ships.

The other point I'd make is to fit efficient plasma accelerators for the 3 large and lasers of some description for the 2 medium.

Final thing I would suggest is to experiment with leading or trailing targeting. I've only recently switched to trailing and i seem to be getting good results from it. I'm hitting with much more regularity with my PA's now.

As @Bigmaec said before, being able to use fixed weapons of some description gets around the constant chaff of some NPC's.
