If there's one thing I hope odyssey does...

Is give us detailed worlds to explore. I can accept Horizon's planet landing thing being barren since we are landing on nothing but moons or dead planets but odyssey can't get away with this. We need forest filled, graphically detailed, breath taking visual sights in this expansion. I want to be able to get out of my ship, and want to see what's beyond that forest on my own two feet and explore said forest while collecting resources and fighting off dangers along the way.

I want to stop dead half way through said forest and gasp in awe of a detailed and realistically looking waterfall I stumbled upon while walking through said forest.

Suffice it to say, for as much as they charged me for this expansion, I better get what I paid for. :)

Lol, ain't gonna happen partner. Tenuous atmo only.

Surely we can conscript reality!?

I would like someone to explain the barrier of prevention possible/not possible so I can quit assuming. I'm wondering though this is actually nothing new. It's all been done before just not cohesively sculpted into the "REAL ODYSSEY" we seek.
Only a few more modules to add to complete that being caves, water, earthlikes and EVA.

OP, while I agree that I'd like just a little No Man's Sky in my Elite Dangerous in the long term, I think it's a lot less important than Frontier getting the things actually doing on Odyssey right.

For instance I want Frontier to get gravity right with FPS and suits when on planetary surfaces, on stations and on outposts. All of those locations are going to have gavity from 0g to possible low multiple Gs. FPS really needs to be different when the amount of gravity is different, just like SRVs behave differently. I believe this is much more important to the short term game play than if I see trees, grass and procedural plants/animals!

Prepare to be disappointed, you are going to get desert worlds with minimal flaura and no fauna at best. They will be pretty, there was a moment in the last reveal that showed some pretty breathing views of a sunset on a snowy ice world, but its an order of magnitude or two shy of the complexity of a full earthlike ecosystem.

I'd like to think odyssey will roll out tenous atmospheres followed a few mths later with more atmospheres and Flora fauna, and 6 or so mths later more of the same plus more explorer content in space so on so forth. It all won't fall at once its way to big an ask.
I hope it will all become apparent in say, a years time...looking back with full atmospheres and tons of new fixed content.
I really do...hope...of hopes..perhaps. might be buggy? Won't be fixed....added to existing long term unfixed bugs....But I'm getting all negative now...jeez.
It will get better but not all at once.

What are you talking about? the most we've seen is A SINGLE PREVIEW video. The hell is wrong with this community? One video and everyone assumes that's all we get?
we have seen more than one video and we have a lot of information about the new expansion. If you are uninformed its your problem, but please don't come here after release moaning because the planets are barren and you wanted planets with flora, fauna and a lot of megacities.

I must admit the things i most want are already confirmed as not being in (at launch).
That is not to say I won't enjoy ED:O however.

But I was really hoping for npcs we could use for crew mates (on ship,) and squadmates (on foot) with their individual skill levels and ability to give basic orders (think rainbow 6 Vegas)

I was hoping for overhangs and procedural caves/tunnels.

And I was (am still at some point) hoping for full VR (but am relieved we still get some VR support,).

Rumors and hearsay don't count as concrete information ya know...
Decades of computer gaming have taught me to rein in my expectations.
There's lowering expectations and setting your expectations down with the dinosaur fossils!

A lot of things are known already, like tenuous atmosphere so no waterfalls (or liquid water for that matter).

Personally I expect exactly what has been confirmed - martian-like planets and what I hope is content fitting them - different weather patterns like dust storms etc.
