Sci-fi is full of ingenius sound effects creation - I wonder if Elite's team have any interesting stories?

The first, chronologically speaking at least, "iconic" sound effects with unorthodox, and extremely inventive origins, would be the "tardis" sounds from doctor who, which was created when "Brian Hodgson, then the studio manager at the Radiophonic Workshop, dragged one of his house-keys along the strings of a broken piano. ... So we put that in."

Similarly, the iconic "pew pew" of Star Wars blasters was created thus:

Although it is worth quoting the comment from the video:
Same process Ben Burtt used for the original film. Watch it at 1.5x speed for it to sound closer to how it's heard in the movies. See Ben Burtt's interview at https://www.starwars.com/video/sound-...

So... Given the incredibly low tech origins of two of the most iconic sounds in 20th century sci-fi, I wonder do the team behind our astonishingly good soundtrack have any ingenious hacks to tell us about, or have any of our forum community worked out how some of the sounds we've come to know and love over the last six years might have been created? (as in, you think such and such in game sounds like blah-de-blah in real life)
