Rift S and RTX3080

I’ve got the opportunity to upgrade but I’ve been reading about issues with compatibility.

Is anybody running the Rift S with the RTX 3080 from the Elite Launcher and is the upgrade from the 1080 worth it in vr visuals.

Thanks in advance

I am also very interested in any replies - I’m also Rift S + 1080 (with i7 8700) and would like to know what the performance gain is. I’m hoping to upgrade once stock levels increase and scalper prices are a thing of the past.

I currently run mostly High/Ultra settings, SS 1.0, HMD 1.25 - ASW kicks in during busy situations but it doesn’t bother me that much.

I have run the Rift S with a 3090 and experienced no problems. The Oculus runtime works just fine with Elite.

The difference between a 1080 and a 3080 will be the ability to run the Rift S at a very high level of supersampling and never have to rely on spacewarp as you will have enough grunt to maintain 80fps at 1.5x native render target.

In a nutshell, yes it is definitely worth it.

Sorry to be out of the topic, but since you guys probably use the Oculus service to play and not the Steam version, do you happen to know where can we pre order the Odyssey expansion. I'm very interested on having the special suit that only come with the pre purchase... ?

Fortunately I'm an original Beta backer so will get it automatically.
I also use the original FDev Launcher and do not launch it through Oculus or any other platform.

However with it not fully supporting VR at launch I wonder if Oculus will allow it to be pre-ordered through them. Maybe @Arthur Tolmie can check for us and give us some feedback please. Maybe a change could be made to be able to pre-order it through FDev website and by pass steam?

EDIT: scratch that Elite Dangerous - Frontier Store this link seems to do the job!!!

Thank you:D to have taken the time to inform us. I'm now wondering if I will be able to have it work with Oculus even if there is not an official VR support, we will still be able to have a VR cinema experience while on foot. I'm quite confused. Are you sugesting that if I buy a copy on the frontier store that I will be able to play it in Oculus? BTW, I have the steam version that allowed me back then to have also a Key for Oculus.

I purchased the original game from FDev and have never purchased it from either Oculus or Steam. It works perfectly well. I did get an Oculus key about a year ago and I now have two copies showing in my Oculus library. I always launch it from the Frontier launcher though.

As far as I understand it, we get full VR as it is now, ie in the ship and SRV.
When we get on our feet I believe we go to a flat screen presentation in the headset or we can remove the headset and use the monitor.

When you say that you always launch Elite with the Frontier Launcher, how do you manage to play in VR? Sorry for the newbie question. : )

That is Ok! I load the FDev launcher press play. Elite game loads and automatically fires up the Oculus software and loads the game. Sometimes if I open Oculus first then the Elite launcher I get a runtime error and Elite shuts down which is why I do it that way.
