Game Discussions Star Citizen Discussion Thread v12

What about people who only post bug videos and how terrible the game is? Are they also deluded idiots?
Nice 😁
When I've joined this forum, there were mainly posts of bug videos and how terrible the game is (appart from some posts of Sovapid and Mole). I don't need to post about the bad parts of SC, this is well done here without my help.
It's true I only post good videos and facts about SC because at least, it's new info for you 😉. If you want to talk about the real state of the alpha, you need to know what is bad and what is good, so I talk about the good only because you know what is bad before me.
When 15 people here say the network is bad, it's true, I will not say the opposite. If you want a 16th person to say it, I can say it. The network is bad.
And if you want me to post a nasty bug video for all good video I post, I can do it, it's easy with SC.

For AA, I'm only someone enjoying SC. If I don't post videos about my gameplay sessions, it's because I never record my games and I enjoy what some here calls a 'boring' gameplay (on the contrary of Sovapid who offer cool action stuff). Perhaps one day I will try but I'm sure the result will not be entertaining.

It's also ok for me that not everyone enjoy my posts, think I'm a whiteknight or more strange, that I'm paid by CIG. I'm a grown boy, I will survive.

You are also correct, one day I might perhaps leave this thread. It's sometimes exhausting to post here and everyone can be bored. If so, you will certainly notice it because fan of SC are few here, you will miss me 🥰

My dear LittleAnt - the network implementation is not only bad - it's unutterably godawful.

If you have access to a network sniffer, please take 5 or 10 minutes of your time playing Star Citizen and capture some traffic, and have a good long look at it. There are many decent guides on how to do this safely that are just a search away.

Please don't compromise your own network integrity in doing so, but please, PLEASE, look at what that pre-alpha techdemo is actually putting on-wire.

How is a posted video "not true"?

What is "not true" about this recent example of a posted video:

That it doesn't disprove the broader terribleness? ;)

Ach, I guess you could say it's a cinematic shot, so not exactly a demonstration of gameplay. Although it is pleasing to see torps/missiles seemingly working ;)

Actual vids of Idris takedowns seem to suggest a slightly herky-jerkier experience than that though. (And amusingly, the actual Eckhart mission trail seems to be fairly sketchy. Like a 45 cred payout for the prior mission, and no payout at all for the Idris one).

The thing I'm interested in is whether you can actually target turrets etc, or whether they're still invincible (due to that shield hole issue or whatever).

Because that would be a wee bit terrible for a capital ship fight ;)

Didn't know you needed my point of view on some subjects... Which points do you want me to respond ?

:ROFLMAO::LOL:😁

You are mistaken. This thread hasnt changed for the last few years. Mole and Sovapid (tho Sova really is a veteran here) didnt alter the thread in any meaningful way (IMO). It always been honest, critical, and open to other thinking people. You had quite a warm welcome....what you made out of that entrance is your own doing.

You asked what he thought about it.
He thought it looked done before.
If you're just going to complain about the answers, perhaps don't ask the question…?
So, if he was really not implying that I was presenting this video from the 'never be done before' bias, I'm sad for him not being able to respond something else than "China was cooking pasta several centuries before you" when the cook ask him if he likes its pasta 🙄

What can I say? Apart from pretty landscapes (ideally snowy, I'm a sucker for that) or major/innovative tech/gameplay (when Braben surprise showed the planetary surfaces and scaled out), I'm rarely overwhelmed by trailers. Stuff in context can be great, but in isolation, it's, well, the same stuff I've seen/played a million times. The CP2077 trailers did nothing for me, yet the game absolutely blew me away. The ED Odyssey trailers look like FPS soup to me, I just don't get how anyone can get excited by what, without context, is yet another FPS. So, really, all that video inspires to me is that it takes me back to 1993 when intercepting missiles/torpedoes was not only possible but critical in going further than the 4th (!) campaign mission. I'll forever curse that medical frigate, but it taught me a lot about power management.

And yeah, I gathered that wasn't the kind of reaction you were looking for, so I didn't offer it until you asked.

So wait, how much of the old UI needs to be scrapped and rebuilt in 'Building Blocks'?

Supposedly the Starmap for starters:

Well damn. Elevator panels took long enough ;)

All of it.

Everything in the mobiglass, with the exception of the player trading app which is new. All the MFD's. All the trade terminals, all ship buying/renting terminals.

Hoping they do the scanning UI soon/next. Although the starmap would be a good one too as it is hot garbage.

They just redid the mining UI and it turned out pretty good.

Goddam. I wondered if the mobiglass would need an overhaul too.

I’m sure it’ll all be shiny, but can’t help but shake my head at all the AAA styling and tinkering going down the toilet.

I'll give my view about that Idris mission.
My main gripe is CiG painstakingly crafted that thing for maybe a year or two. For maybe 10 minutes of content. Where is that promised procedurally generated universe ? The way to go, and entertain millions of backers, would have been procedural generation for planets, AND missions. Instead we are condemned to see over and over again the same screenshots for the same handful of missions that are currently done (that bunker one, the 890 assault and now the Idris thing).
For a reminder, 100 systems were promised at launch, with proc gen everywhere, billions of NPCs populating the universe, giving an virtually infinite number of options for missions and such. Instead, everything is hand crafted to the last pixel, guess who's to blame again for that idiocy..
Then there's the timing and execution. Why again another hand crafted mission that certainly has taken a lot of resources and money to do, instead of concentrating on the core game engine, which is still entirely lacking important concepts such as networking, properly working physics (i would include doors and ladders in there), etc..
Why propose a mission that would require an huge org to complete properly, with multiple sized ships, when servers start to weaken above 15 players (who are not even in the same location !!) and are capped to 50 players ? What's the reasoning when they couldnt even release a base CryEngine game with the base physics it proposes, that would be ToW which has been now relegated to the bin of wasted development (and that bin is now kinda big) - as ToW itself was a "simple" fps shooter variant, without all the constraints of the PU ? So they couldnt even complete the baby steps (if we listened to the gospel, ToW was needed to test technologies for the PU..), now they are trying to run ?
So yeah beyond the lack of originality of said mission, which i do not care about (space trucking aint really original either, lets be honest), its existence is again a symptom of a deeper illness at CiG.

Rarely new info for those of us who follow development as closely as some backers. On the other hand, a lot here don't, so fair play.

Yeah, as i said, it was more about how you (and others like you) appear to some of us. Its the same as people who only say good things and post good things about ED. They tend to get bashed. You talked about there being a balanced view of the game, but we only see you bigging it up. So while some of us are only negative, you're only positive. People like Mole/Sovapid are more balanced, because they will be positive and negative.

You are also correct, one day I might perhaps leave this thread.

Maybe, but there will be someone like you along sooner or later to take your place. Mr. Novak has been strangely absent for a while! Perhaps he knows someone is ready to quote some old posts of his predictions at him should he return :D

Generally in these forums when one does send some praise to Fdev there will be quite a crowd of mr Negatives answering and telling how game is just barely playable horrid stinking mess and Fdev about worst developer ever. So treatment of SC here is about same that people here give to ED itself. LittleAnt would do wise if he checks other areas of these forums to see how fanboi'ish these forums are.

Or perhaps those mr Negatives are in fact secret SC backers? :D

I totally agree with you that everything depends on the core game engine and all the game engines out there have both advantages and disadvantages. And when it comes to space games, Cry Engine has more advantage when it comes to fps and Cobra Engine has more advantage in space simulator, myself have unfortunately not seen a core game engine that can handle both advantages at the same time, so what I know so far.
