So I bought a T9 ..........again!!!

I don't know why! As soon as I filled up my cargo racks and headed to my target system, the familiar doubts came back when an NPC ship messaged me to tell me that I'm the one they're looking for.
It was pointless even considering to evade interdiction, so I submitted like a good lad.
An Anaconda NPC followed by a separate Alliance Challenger NPC.

I got out of there with no shields and only 78% hull before I was once again being pulled out by the same 2 NPCs within 20 seconds.

Let's just say, it didn't end well for me. I shamefully played this game until I couldn't handle no more and I logged out after I managed to supercruise again.

I had to rely on a friend to come in in their Corvette and chaperone me back to the station.

It was embarrassing but necessary in order to get home in sort of one piece.

I don't think there are any shields (I had 5A Prismatics on board with Shield Boosters) that can withstand continuous interdiction and weapons fire.
I can't fight and I can't evade, so what's the secret to owning one of these ships and actually enjoying it?
I don't mind being interdicted and shot at as it's part of the game and my sin for hauling 750t in one run but if I manage to get away (I had A rated dirty thrusters with drag drives), it's no fun being constantly harassed until I'm presented with a rebuy screen.

The experience has now driven me to complete the Imperial Rank grind to get the Cutter but it saddens me that the T9 just isn't good enough to make it a viable long term cargo ship as it boasts nothing superior other than cargo space.

I do wish that the T9 got a buff either speed, maneuverability or shield strength to give it a chance out there.

I managed to evade NPC interdictions in the past, but unlike in other ships I had to really pay attention to the minigame and anticipate the direction changes early enough.

I only use my T9 for FC refuelling - any other business involving high volume cargo I rather take the Cutter as that can push back, and still escape when several NPCs drop on me and shields start to run low.

A T9 with 750T cargo space must be pretty crappy in defence, the most you can fit is a class 5 shield generator. And if you can't fight and can't evade, then you are just a sitting duck. That's why I have never owned a T9.

I love my shieldless T9! It does a perfectly WONDERFUL job for me and is a 100% reliable at doing it! I never get interdicted and I have never lost a cargo haul between systems!

Admittedly it never leaves the hold of my FC while its storing a load of Tritium between jumps but I can assure you that the T9 is the best ship for this job! Even my two Cutter's can't compete at this level! :D

Odd, isn't it? My T-9 is equally as impressive in doing exactly the same job ;)

But for hauling cargo...

Buy a Cutter, and be done with it. With a C6 prizzy you can take on a wing of NPC's while trucking 728 tons of gold. With a C8 prizzy, you can fall asleep.
Is about right! 🥳

Funny, I reactivated my T9 after buying the chromed paintjob and am now exclusively using it for bulk hauling. Feels right NOT to use the shiny beauty queen but the gritty, industrial beast. Haven't lost an interdiction to NPCs yet either. Ironically I think it is easier than with a more nimble ship like the Python.

Sounds like you had a mission outstanding?

I fly a T9 for cargo quite often. First up, never fly with anything you can't afford to lose. Second: if you are getting constantly harassed, high wake and try again. Finally: never haul Beryllium. Ever. That's not so much a general rule as a personal one.

I know what you're saying but then making it any tougher in shields and Guardian shield Boosters, it defeats it's purpose as a cargo hauler.

I'm going to stick to the Cutter once unlocked but it is really a shame that the T9 sucks at everything.

Yeh it was mission outstanding.

i love flying a t9, but for stacked mission haulage (where you might get more than 1 npc, and you need to get to that station) it is not the best choice.

that said - i run a full engineered seeker set up, which can take care of all single npc spawns. but as it is not always possible to evade, and not always possible to have 1 npc spawned only - i use something else for L-pad mission trading.

The way to defeat interdictions in a T9 is in my experience to slow down in SC as soon as the interdiction starts, 25% throttle maximum lower can be better.
As @ObiW says anticipate the direction changes and catch them as early as possible.
Don't stay cantered on the escape vector but flip across it as this seems to speed up your victory.
Be prepared for a long fight.
And finally as with everything else in the game never take a mission unless you are unlocking a rank or permit.

Type 9 can be pretty sturdy, my Type 9 have no problem in surviving long enough to an NPC Elite Anaconda, for authority to arrive and deal with that threat. Of course, you must pay some attention your build, you need to put Military grade hull on it and do some engineering. and that is while having 752T of cargo capacity.

I mostly prefer my Type 9 over my Cutter that also have 752 T of cargo capacity due to my legacy engineered class 5 shield. Cutter is only choosen when I know I will encounter mission targets.

I have one and always struggled to find a role for it, cause I really like the looks and feel of it as a freighter. Then carriers came and now it's my to go ship when mass carrying anything to fill up or unload the carrier.

Do things right and no npc has time to interdict you. Don't even carry shields on mine.

I have engineered it based on CMDR Exigious and his build. I engineered almost everything except the shields which if I do that, might give me the edge, as well as not stacking lots of missions.

I honestly wish that FDev gave it a bit more love especially with this Lakon takeover saga in the BGS. The Cutter excels in every aspect to the T9 that you question how badly build the T9 is. Even if the T9 had one strength similar to the Cutter, that would be a bonus.
It seems that for the T9 to be viable, you must select your missions carefully to reduce the number of interdictions from enemies, which I don't think is for me personally.

You are sacrificing survivability for cargo space and paying the price. Beef up the shields and hull until you can survive, then as you become comfortable you can most likely start switching some stuff back to cargo room. Off top my head, my Type-9's hold just over 700 tons. The 40ish more I could haul are not worth the increased chance of turning into a fireworks display gone wrong.
