Has anyone given any thought about what ship you’ll be using in Odyssey for land-based missions?

Do you plan on using small, medium, or large ships? Something fast and agile or something bigger that can dish out and take a beating? I’m also curious if having a fighter available may have its uses. Should we bring along two SRV’s? Each ship will have an added dimension to it’s purpose or role.

Any thoughts?
I'm of the mind that travelling the amount of distance ED offers no vessel should be less than an anaconda to carry slf and srv as standard!

I would love if all ships were configured to accommodate this as common rule with including the option to store medium sized ships as they are now.

Krait Mk II or Phantom, if medium ships are required. Small ships? Might go for my good old Cobra Mk III for that, actually, or an Imperial Courier.

another courier here most likely ... have spend the first months of horizons in one.... or a DBS? if there are no additional modules nneded.

that said - if my bubble commanders gets odyssee. my main sits in a DBE far away from civilisation, and will use it for landing.

Hopefully it will depend on the mission. It sounds like maybe there will be some small pad only situations, so my Cobra and DBX are probably going to get some love. Definitely going to be gearing up one of the Alliance ships for the scifi dropship vibes too. I also have my Asp Explorer kitted and painted to (vaguely) resemble Thunderbird 2, so if we wind up with some more SRV options, I'm gonna get a real kick out of deploying from that.

Looking forward to flying a Type-10 bomber. One sweep, and there's no settlement.

I'm thinking similar. Hi Cap Thermal seekers on all Large slots, because I am assuming the ground targets dissipate heat even worse than ships. 2 LR Thermal Beam turrets on top, for fighter defence and shield burning and an LR Hi Yield cannon turret below, for ground effect (the class 2s). @ LR Vent beams on the nose for class 1s.

The idea is to get troops and vehicles to the ground, and provide air support after. So the 8 is a Biweave. The 7 is 2 fighters, because we should be able to crew for them all. After that I'm thinking of loading a 6G, 4G, and a 2G vehicle hangar. It's a gamble on there being heavy vehicle types that require more space than our little Scarabs. But this gives 16 cargo for looting, economy cabins for 16 troops, hull and module reinforcement, and ground scanner. I'm not banking on NPC infantry, so 16 is optimistic, and can be adjusted if vehicle hangars don't net heavier vehicles by class, as can cargo.

Utilities are mostly point defence, with chaff as most heavy ground weapons are turrets, or ecm if chaff is ineffective.

There should already be crew space on the T-10 for all the functions my magic Pilot's License lets me automate, but I don't expect to see this empty reality till we get ship interiors. Maybe we are meant to have 'crew cabins' that we strip to free slots... But with the cabin space I've installed I should drop a mechanised squad of 8-16 infantry and 3 vehicles in assorted sizes (and/or spares), while still being able to lift and provide heavy air support with 2 SLF for cover.

Wishful thoughts for large ship users - being able to fill the empty cabin space without needing new passenger cabins - some of these ships should need a dozen 'normal' crew. But at least as many internal (free) cabins as we get cockpit seats... and maybe 2 NPC slots to fill both SLFs that we know can be launched 'cos Multiplayer lets us (still?).

What about an AI SRV pilot option?

We just don't know what benefits and drawbacks will be yet.

They did mention something about "encouraging the use of small and medium ships" though... How they will do this, we don't know. Capabilities of surface-based weaponry, terrain, some other variable I can't even think of...
