The Krait Phantom engine

Hi Commanders, sorry if this is a bit of a geek post but it did intrigue me when I looked into 'Aerospike Rocket Motors' in some depth:

My Question: Is the Krait Phantom the only ship in Elite Dangerous to have the ubiquitous 'Aerospike' engine? o7

Your pictures aren't showing (to me at least).

Less than 1 MB ?

Okay, will look into pix problem. o7

Update: There were two versions of this post, the first had all embedded pix removed/replaced, I think you perhaps clicked on the OP just as it was being 'updated' with correct pix. Sorry about that. o7

Given the ships in Elite spend the vast majority of their time in vacuums and - until Odyssey drops - don’t land on planets with even partial atmospheres, it seems very unlikely that a niche engine design intended to overcome efficiency issues by exploiting air pressure behaviour at low altitudes would have been used.

No, its the same engine as the MK 2 but in one long strip rather than stacked double.

KM2 is 2 stacks of 3, Phantom is one strip of 9 (3 x 3)

Yeah technical point taken as the 'Spike' is a SSTO Engine i.e good in atmosphere and vacuum... But.. the Phantom's rear end signature sure looks 'Spike-like'. Perhaps it is THE ship primed for Odyssey? (it would still work in space while the wait goes on)

My Krait Phantom's rear-end:

My Krait's engine exhaust looks like this. The question is, what are those two 'extra' trails on the outside?

This photo shows we have a series of regular rocket nozzles - not aerospike. Aerospike is unique in that it uses no actual bell. There are round aerospikes but nothing I've seen in E:D looks similar.

If someone at Frontier really knew their stuff we might get them for atmosphere - where aerospikes come into their own.

What are the other two streaks? Efficiency leaking out ;oP

I think they look more like ion drives which would be WAYYYYYYY more impressive

Aerospike engine modules confirmed. New Engineer incoming with sweet sweet pointy thrusters.

AHAHHAHAHAA!

Yeah OK... all my dreams spoilt... I'm convinced; deffo banks of standard 'bell nozzle' engines on the Phantom.... and yet the 'Aerospike' Engines make soooo much sense for Odyssey don't you think? (Mind you; we are only getting thin atmospheres.. so ... yeah....well)
