2 more months until Odyssey?

Not sure how you think Frontier haven't been taking their time. No premium content updates in 3+ years. And Odyssey originally had the placeholder title of "the 2020 update."
And games didn't just start getting made in the last month... The sample size of Cyberpunk 2077 is a bit sketchy.

People saying "look what happened to CP2077!" are basically the same as people saying "when is the date for your funeral?" when you tell them you're getting married. Hoho, good one. Glad you got that out of your system.

They say their will be Alpha, and yet they expect for the game to go through Alpha, Beta and release phases in just 2-3 month time.

I strongly suspect this is just marketing.

With 1.0 and 2.0, they charged extra for Beta access, they sold a premium version with access. Then about three years ago, they shifted to making betas free for everyone with the product. They get much more testing done that way.

With Odyssey, they want to sell a premium version again ($$$) but also want to get as many players as possible in on the later stages of the beta.

To have their cake and eat it, they take to calling the early stages of beta "alpha" (even though it's not strictly an alpha phase) and sell access to that.

Either that or Alliance ship availability is to be "improved" (by about 21,000 lightyears) ?

(Sounds like Core Dynmaics are actually supporters of dictatorships!!!)

You are joking right? Did you forget how it took them months to fix FSS bug? Same with Pulse Wave Scanner recently.
This is the time to test, not after release - and AI especially is very complicated, so it has to be done prior to release. And it takes a long long time to fix AI behavior, even during development phase.
CDPR had 8 years of development, and they still failed. Frontier is only working on Odyssey for few years, so it is even more important to have a long testing phase for Odyssey, to find all the bugs now, before the team moves on to other projects, and won't have time for fixing bugs.
Not joking.

Using FDev's previous failings to forewarn about future risks is fine. I literally said that then you quote it and then use two good examples of that (post release issues that get fixed late). These are examples where fdev aren't prioritising quality presently and they're valid concerns.

Using cp2077 is irrelevant though. It's got nothing to do with anything. That's all I said. Not sure what you're trying to pull from the post though. Did you think I'm somehow wanting to argue about whether Odyssey will or won't have some major issues post launch?

CP2077 has nothing to do with Odyssey.

But it'll never be Cyberpunk 2077 in terms of the demands of the development cycle.

Just please stop using it. It's irrelevant.

Oh and I seriously doubt Galnet just announced the release date. But knock yourselves out with that one.
It's more of a cautionary tale for developers who think of profits before the people investing in them?
Cyberpunk of which I purchased, had a full museum of failed games due to suit and tie terrorist. Then proceeded to forego the history and so it repeats....they've earned a cruise up shiits creek. Let them enjoy it, I'm sure EA is sitting across from them at the bar bragging about fifa revenue!

"HE WHO F's up the best gets to where the title"

*me hoping small seismic charges are released with Odyssey;

FDev don't need the lesson! They've been developing games for long enough on their own.

Nothing notable between CDPR's story and FDev's story is comparable. Fdev need not heed lessons from CDPR's failed last gen console launch.

It'd be like warning fdev because Hello Games critically bombed with NMS. Fdev didn't critically bomb. They released a successful product that's been successful ever since. The microcosm of forum salt here bears not a jot of similarity to the storm of cp2077s release. And there's no evidence to suggest Odyssey will be any different.

The only thing in FDev's history that's remotely comparable was Offline Gate. And if anyone learned anything from that debacle, it was fdev!

In the recent Galnet report Core Dynamics Purchases Lakon Spaceways, it is mentioned that "the transfer of ownership will take another two months to formalise...". Perhaps this is an indirect hint at Odyssey's release date. It makes sense since we expect it to be released later in the first quarter.

If so then they should still release developer videos to keep us informed.

I agree, FDev already has plenty of experience on their own with successful and botched releases.

The thing is that ED is not a game that generates Hype in the same order of magnitude of CDPR 2077, so it's hardly comparable.
Also, expectations for Odyssey (at least from the people I play with) are really low, i.e. easy to beat.

Hype with ED comes from the fact that a lot of people see the unrealized potential and project on it at each coming updates.
ED is a rather good niche game with very limited sandbox elements. People should stop expecting more and just enjoy the ride for what it is.

Can we just agree that WFH has an impact, which will wildly differ depending on your own personal work type, team setup and any other of a thousand variables that means not everyone is the same?

FDev said it impacts their current output. That's it. No further discussion required. Having a global pandemic is a variable in everything we do.

Oh sweet summer child. It doesn't matter how much testing we have prior to launch, the first week is still going to be a bugfest. Is this your first rodeo with FD?

Last I heard they said it didn't impact them much and that they were hiring – some interview done earlier last year with DB. I'm not paying too much attention to it though.

Thread title: My prediction is no, and I'd err on the side of three or more. 🤷‍♂️
