DBX Cockpit/Canopy Options + Possible Other Ships

The DBX is possibly my favorite ship in the game. I can't fly the Krait because my PC can't load Horizons due to graphics card issues or I'd probably fly that, but that's something different. My only problem with the DBX is the cockpit. Would it not be possible to make a canopy available through Livery that is more like the ASP Explorer, cosmetic only (A more open view, full glass canopy)? I'm sure you would make money off of it. I'd buy it immediately. I feel like it would be financially rewarding somewhat, at least enough to justify creating it. I really hate the metal box that the top half of the glass part sits on that hinders my vision of anything below me. I keep switching back and forth between the DBX and ASP, just because of the canopy. I can't be the only one annoyed by this.

Not sure if this is the right place for this, but just wanted to make this suggestion. Nor do I know if this has been discussed. If it has, my apologies.

This is a crucial part of all the ships having their distinctive characters, allowing us to choose our cockpit would ruin this.

It's why I fly a T6 for exploration instead of a DBX, it's why I fly the Courier instead of the Viper, it's why I fly a T10 instead of another large ship, it's why I fly a Chieftain instead of a an FDL, etc.

Fly what feels most satisfying to you.

Which... Would be the DBX. I don't feel like a full glass canopy option for a DBX would change anything vital to the game besides cosmetically. I still fly it more than any other ship. But not being able to take in the views as much as if I were in an ASP (Or Krait? Never flown one) is just annoying. Specifically because this ship has "Explorer" in its' name. Why make me choose between a ship I don't like but has a good canopy vs a ship that I like but has a bad canopy? Doesn't make much sense to me.

So, out of curiosity, why would choosing a canopy ruin ships having distinctive features? For instance, an Anaconda canopy would not be able to accommodate a full glass canopy due to its' cockpit shape and location. The DBX could because of where the cockpit is located. The same goes for all ships, if cosmetic canopy options were available. It would still be something to take into account, considering ARX credits would be needed.

The cockpit isn't cosmetic, as it impacts gameplay. It as much an aspect of a ship as it's handling.

You may want to give the T6 a whirl. It is faster than the DBX, handles great and it is nearly the exact same size. It trades in some jump range for speed and cockpit view. It can pull ~53ly and do 550m/s!

Sadly I can't achieve those ranges because I am stuck playing the regular ED.

Please explain how a canopy change from 60% glass to near 95% glass would impact the gameplay in and from a DBX aside from being able to take in better views? In combat, for example, I use the radar anyways. Docking would still be the same, cargo transport would still be the same, the cockpit would have the same durability, the ship's size is still the same. Nothing dramatic changes in any way.

I didn't like the T6 because it felt sluggish, and is much much slower in the base game. I'd take the ASP Explorer over a T6. But I like the small DBX. Just wish the views were a little better.

I know exactly what the OP means. We spend huge hours in ED looking at the dashboard, HUD, and canopy. If its annoying it can drive you nuts.

My main exploration ship has been ASP. Love it.

The T6 as mentioned is good. I had one for cargo and general purpose. Loved it.

I decided to travel in luxury. Exploration Cutter. Flew fine, looks beautiful. I grew to really dislike it. Small canopy, fancy dashboard with non-functional useless clutter (?), ship interior glare, and those big three useless white lights mounted on dashboard center. Drove me nuts. After a couple months I returned to bubble on Friday and parked it.

On Saturday I outfitted a Phantom for exploration. Would be perfect if I could put duct tape on those white lights mounted on the canopy framework. What the heck are they there for? Parked it.

Just finished outfitting an Orca for exploration. Dull blah exterior, really nice interior and nice canopy. Flies super smooth. Nice sound effects. Nothing to drive me nuts on a really long trip. It is not super fancy looking but oh well. Cockpit is great. My new explorer! About to begin a new trek across the galaxy in about 10 minutes.

I have an idea.....

I haven't tried the Orca. Might give that a look. I like the small size of the DBX though which keeps making me sell my ships and returning to it. Plus the heat management is awesome. But damn the canopy, :p.

Horizons went free last month I believe.

Base T6 is faster than base DBX.

I have intel graphics which will not allow me to run Horizons or I'd probably be flying a Krait Phantom. According to the Wiki, T6 base speed is slower than DBX. Sure felt that way, and turning and what not. And I mainly want it for exploration. DBX has longer jump range.
