Important context surrounding FDev's decision to delay Odyssey - what's actually happening here in the UK

I'm not at all bothered, but...
I work for a software house with hundreds of developers. We have been working from home since the 1st lockdown.
Nothing is delayed, we are probably working faster.
Every firm is different and has their own challenges. What worked for company X may not work for company Y.

The programme I am managing has seen slippage in some areas and no significant impact in others, as a programme manager all I can do is provide my stakeholders with clear and accurate communication as to any impact to delivery schedules. Something Frontier have done.

Is your software used on thousands of different configurations which are installed and maintained solely by end-users, on multiple platforms/operating-systems, and does the software's development require content like studio-recorded voices and motion capture, or multiple GBs of asset data/builds syncing regularly across devteams?

It may have been simpler asking if they are a games developer for PC & Console... ;)

Arthur just talked about the delay and the importance of keeping everyone safe on the livestream too:

In tangential news, in the livestream they said that tomorrow we'll be getting some answers to questions about settlements in Odyssey, plus a competition to name locations within Odyssey.

Fried gold.

Not as if they have a stellar record of meeting ED development timescales.
Who imposed the development timescale on them and when?
And to be clear, I am not suggesting covid is not a reason for delay.

True, a few updates were delayed

1.1, 1.2, 1.3, 1.4, 2.0 = all on time
2.1 = delayed 6 weeks
2.2 = delayed 2 months
2.3 = delayed 4 months
2.4 = on time
3.0, 3.1, 3.2, 3.3 = all on time
Apr19, Sep19, Jan20 = all on time
FleetCarriers = delayed by 18 months

Same here. Our software delivers content nationwide (UK, entertainment, 24/7, no delays, no outages (we also use AWS cough, cough)). Our KPIs actually went up since lockdown as our Devs enjoy new work-life balance. COVID is again used as an excuse for incompetence. We need to stop believing every B/S they say is COVIDs fault, it is not, it is lack of common sense, preparations etc. Lockdown did not happen last night...

These are very 'dark days' in the UK currently, call me a white knight or whatever, but I'm not bothered by a delay - more concerned that Frontier are being responsible with their most valuable assets and having them work from home, even if productivity isn't optimal.

Same - more interested right now in ensuring all the devs are safe (also my fellow players too of course). The delay is disappointing but first world problems and all that......
