Are We The 1%?

I'll see your asteroid kissing, and raise you a missing the mailslot at full boost. In a python. That can steer.

Oh I can beat that easily. Doing Fed grinding in Ceos/Sothis with my Anaconda. I don't need no stinking docking computer right!? I'm slap full of criminal passengers - a full cargo hold of mission stuffs and a full 20 missions ready to turn in. Corvette here I come!!!!!

Craaaaaap. Okay no problem, we got this. Pop a heatsink and burn for the mailslot. I've done this a dozen times, I'm a space god!!! No time to pay attention to those red and green lights showing right-of-way but nothing bad ever -----

Screeeaaaatch

That's not a good sound......Stuck in the mailslot with a Dolphin or something wedged under my nose where I can't see it. Uhhhh no good. Reverse, no go. Full forward, nope. Cycle the landing gear, that always works right? Nope! Crap crap crap! I'M STUCK!!!!

Trespasser Warning Countdown

No wait! It's me, Starshot. We're allies. You just called me an ally. Can't I just get a tow out of this from your or something?? DON'T KILL MEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!

Dead.

So let's see the grand tally of this misadventure.

*All passengers angry at me (and dead)
*Fined a gillion credits for all the cargo that got blown up
*Fined a bunch more for the trespassing
*All 20 missions failed, no rep, no money.
*Loss of Allied status with like 3 factions
*Thrown in a space jail 350 light years from where I was
*22 million rebuy of course
*Paid more fines when I got back so I could do missions again cause apparently I caused the Dolphin to explode and die.

This also triggered a bug for the rest of the night where even though the cargo was no longer in my ship and the missions failed, NPC's still believed I was full of mission loot and I started to get interdicted and harassed at an absurdly high rate until I figured out what was going on.

If you can top that f-up I wanna hear it LOL!

How do you think the folks on the planets and space stations we deliver to regard people like us? Are we living-the-dream celebrities who've accrued enough wealth to liberate ourselves from the dreariness of normal existence? Or are we no different from truck drivers, postal workers, baristas, just people doing a fairly mundane job? Do they envy us? Resent us? Forget we even exist? Are we rich enough to have our own entry on space Wikipedia, or are we just nobodies?

I'm not a big lore hound, but I recall that we're called "spacers" by those that never leave a planet or station for one reason or another. I think we're a little out of the ordinary, but we're still hauling poop from one place to another, so maybe just 1% nobodies.

I'm excited to hear that you have finally surpassed your 'N00bness' and joined the 'long-trousers' players who are able to craft the finest of 'sorrowful story' tales... Permit me to be the first to welcome you to this entirely non-exclusive enclave :ROFLMAO:

Soon you too will be able to regale us with tales of 'that day' and enjoy the mirth and merriment the colossal failures bring us all (y)

I enjoyed that story dude! We've all been guilty of the monumental stuff up along those lines, so good that you can look back on it fondly, without having to go outside and pick up the pieces of your pc, after you hoiked it out the window! As @Rat Catcher says, glad you've got rid of your newness and have joined the club of experienced pilots who can still destroy their ship in style, whilst also losing a bunch of missions, cash, rep, liberty, and self-esteem at the same time!!

Have you ever forgotten you don't have a docking computer, when going to a high g planet, and destroying your brand new new ship, because you really needed a pee? Or just trusted it when watching TV, and finding you're very dead in a moment's distraction? Those aren't supposed to gazump your story, just to warn you to never ever ever, not a tiny bit, ever ever ever, never ever, trust a DC to land you without killing you? They are homicidal, and know when you're not looking....!

I'm sure there are players out there who are Jeff Bezos rich.

So we're rich, but are we abnormally rich? Has money become so inflated by 3307 that the 52k you drop on a Hauler is the equivalent of a teenager's first hatchback, rather than buy-a-small-house amounts of money? Is being that level of rich a fairly common occurrence, making us the scruffy Han Solo style everyman members of society? Are we more on a par with a farmer, working with a (relatively) small staff and a pool of expensive machinery to Farming Simulator our way to glory and riches? Are we more like a shipping magnate, with a fleet of container ships that we can somehow operate solo and use only one at a time? Or are we completely, ludicrously, disgustingly rich? Are we show up to work in a suit rich, or show up to work in plaid and jeans rich?

There are people with over a trillion credits. I'm not one of those. I know one in game, and I know of another one from Inara.

I reckon if we slash the number by one zero, the numbers look in line with today's numbers. You don't drop 52k for a new hatchback today, but you get something decent for 5200 today.

I reckon the income level is still fairly levelled with the population. Some fancy explorers paying a few millions to go sightseeing SagA*, rich people wanting some white goods to make their journey a pleasant one, and the common plebs in the cattle class (aka economy) are happy to be off a burning station.

What does make me wonder though: How rich are the super power people? Billions? Trillions?
When would a player rise to a level of wealth where they could meet and greet the "famous" people? Like a rich people club?

I'm curious what it takes to actually destroy a ship into a planet. I smacked the ground crazy hard in the 'Conda the other day and the shields just sorta shrugged it off. Thought for sure she was gonna crater in lol.

Yeah those DC' 's are evil, can't trust em! I only use them for special situations because they can save even the most reckless approach lol.

Easy...
  • Accept around 20 surface scan missions, with at least 5 for the same base.
  • Complete glide & scan then boost out of range and to Supercruise height
  • Drop back down around 20Km from the surface.
  • Switch off Flight Assist and have your Courier heading toward the planet surface (2G body) at around 777 M/s
  • Talk to wife...
  • Notice the Courier is slightly under 1 Km form the surface and adjust for level flight
  • forget that FA-Off is engaged
  • hit surface at 777 M/s
  • Briefly see shields and hull integrety reduce to zero
  • Enjoy fireball and minor rebuy.
  • enjoy more that scan missions are not lost on ship destruction.
Note: for the more adventurous pilot replace Courier with Mamba

Et Voila!
