C'mon, this is faintly ridiculous.

Definitely a different guy. The guy I'm talking about knew about rebuy, he just thought he wouldn't die and always flew with a wing of guys protecting him.

Yeah it's not hard to get that rebuy, but in this case the guy was a pvper and the situation of being low on cash wasn't new to him. He also didn't have time to grind money since he has to get his stream started. Like I said it's not a great mechanic and should probably be ditched if all it's going to cause at best is ragequits. I certainly don't play Elite because of the fun possibility of losing my ship, not that I ever would. Like you said, I learned my lesson early with a Viper 3.
Yeah different guy. However, I maintain that there needs to be some risk in the game. If you get blown up, there's no consequence? That sounds like one of those awful kiddies game where "everybody wins!"

I'd say in the case you're referring to - more fool them then! If they knew what would happen and chose to fly without rebuy anyway, then their rage should be directed to themselves, not the game. I certainly wouldn't support changes to the game because a streamer didn't have time to earn money because they had to start their stream!

You know what's ridiculous? Modules costing exponentially more in bigger ships and earnings not scaling up along. When I finally got to the point of buying a Python and saw what the better module cost I pretty much lost the drive to grind further.

If by faintly you mean extremely. Used to be a ship upgrade was an investment, you worked in it until it paid off and made you enough to make another upgrade. Now it's the blip on the road to Anaconda.
Gameplay and end game content shifted. Imagine the road new players need to take. The rest of the world is flying about in their shiny carriers, and the new ones have to grind themselves to death through ship progression, all the while getting jumped by to the teeth engineered ships.

At the start of this game we had to go through ship progression because there wasn't anything else to progress through, and it made sense because we were all flying the same crap. These days are gone. The game, gameplay and its content evolved, old players should too.

This I agree with (y)

For my part, I'm glad that I had to go through the progression - made me appreciate the game more. It's a shame that newer players can't experience that, however judging by the reactions of some, they wouldn't have appreciated that in the same way I did anyway, so that's fine.

I had fun with 'progression' when I started a little over 3 years ago...

Certainly now getting hold of the credits to buy and equip a good medium (around 200 mill) is not the task it was then - is it worse for it? I'm of the opinion that the game has inflated earnings to adopt to new players not being prepared to take months to 'progress' ships, it just means that everyone can be a little less 'careful' and worry less about the loss of ship etc. now than then.

I savewiped my Alt yesterday to play around with the the new trading buff I've been reading about - played for an affo into evening, today I restart in a Type 7 with full Farseer FSD engineering.

I know, I know, I'm a EDjunkie who knows where to go and what to do, but even so......

Oh, and when you die, always restart in a basic Sidey. That'd be fun.

If it's only faintly ridiculous, surely it shouldn't be in Dangerous Discussions. 😅

Jokes aside, I have to agree with OP unfortunately.

"In my day, I walked up hill to school every day, both ways. It didn't matter how deep the snow was, I'd walk back and forth every day and I didn't complain..."

Fdev recently released the original ED on PC, for free. Did you guys get your copy?
Yes, I played it briefly for the nostalgia.

It's made me incapable of complaining about what we have now, which is awesome beyond anything we could have imagined in the 80s.

Why even ask that question when you have to decide that for yourself.
I started playing in may 2014.
Has the game evolved?
Yes!
Or is it just pretty much doing the same things you did in 2014 with different bells and whistles.

Could you trade in 2014? Yep
Could you engaging in combat in 2014? Yep
Could you mine in 2014? Yep
Could you explore in 2014? Yep

Could you drive on a planet in 2014?
Could you engineer your ship in 2014?
Could you fly a Krait MK II in 2014?
Could you get involved in PowerPlay in 2014?

Yeah sure, nothing has changed .... just be honest, if FD gave you a million dollars you would still find something to complain about.

I have an ENTIRE Milky Way galaxy to see and explore. Do you really think me toiling away in the bubble for credits is what's going to give me a sense of this progression?

I'm sorry some of you seem bored with the game now that you have everything and have seen everything. So this expansion Odyssey is coming and maybe it will sate you for a time. But I firmly disagree that limiting credits will make you feel any better about things. It will just make others experience of the game worst.

The credit grind didn't make you appreciate the game more. You are bored now, and you weren't back then. That's all this is imo.

Sorry but "Waaah new commanders are flying around in Anacondas!" is A) not true, and B) how do you judge a novice? The credit payout rate in the game is STILL crazy low, and I say this as a veteran since the game launched with TWO cutters: One for cargo, one for combat.

To me this sounds like players feeling like they aren't special anymore because other people have the same prestige ships as them. This feels like nothing more than "I'm the only kid on my block with a SNES!"

Properly kitting out an Anaconda or a Corvette can cost close a billion. Even today that's a TON of credits.
