I can't believe people are complaining.

If you could hear the words I am using to describe them when I talk about this with my close friends, I would be banned permanently with immediate effect.

Guys.

Seriously.

PEOPLE ARE DYING ALL OVER THE WORLD AND IT'S REALLY BAD IN THE UK. NOBODY GIVES A DAMN IF YOUR PRECIOUS VIDEO GAME GETS DELAYED OR EVEN CANCELLED. GET THE HECK OVER IT.

Well said buddy.

I'm wondering why I bothered reading this thread..... just more complaints. Every time there is some new iteration of the game this happens.

I can wait.

Elite Dangerous: Horizons/Odyssey isn't the only game in town.

Make it good, do it right. I can wait.

spoken like a true ceo.

Nope, like a guy who has been one of those coders on a project when a bunch of "help" was air-dropped in on us. In the time I spent getting my share of the "new guys" up to speed with where we were at, I could have debugged three libs and knocked out a couple thousand lines of code on the next-most-critical feature.

frontier delayed a delivery again, it's not the first time, they have emitted the usual bullcrap statement and people laughs at their excuses but the world keeps spinning. that's all there is. they are free to delay. they are free to emit bullcrap. we are free to laugh our asps off.

now could you please get over it and relax already? 😂

(this message delivered to you in the best interest of your own health).

(i could have made this a powercrap presentation but, you know, in the current emergency situation my options are very limited. stay safe.)

fyi, this thread is a countercomplaint. see title and op.

it is an elaborate dramatization to deny the fact that frontier uses industry standard excuses to cover industry standard screw ups. because, you know, frontier is more than a just company ... or something.

Okay, confession time. I work for one of the largest, most profitable Game Developers in the world. Where I am located 95% of the work force is working remotely from home and I can say categorically, with complete authority and truthfulness that the productivity of my section alone has skyrocketed. It is very easy to clean empty offices :D

Of course the comment I made was utter bovine droppings but seriously, why do people have come here and boast that they are a software developer (I am guessing maybe 1 in 10 is actually telling the truth here) and compare their mythical situation with FD's. We don't know exactly how FD operates, we don't know how compartmented their work force is, we don't know what degree of oversight the higher ups have. Believe me, if everything a person did had to be vetted, checked and approved by three levels above you then working from home would be a utter pain the in the proverbial. Same goes for collaboration, yes you can have wonderful on-line meetings, you can correspond with emails and IM but nothing beats the ability to tap someone on the shoulder and ask them to look at 'x' for you, or quickly bounce ideas off each other.

FD are a business, and a very successful one. So why would a successful company purposely delay one of their major products, something that they have been working years on. They wouldn't, simple as that. So FD have stated that one of the reasons for the delay of Odyssey is the COVID 19 lockdown, stands to reason in the current climate yet some here deemed that is a fallacy - well how about you get behind your keyboard and produce some proof. If you can say that FD are lying they you must have irrefutable proof - so where is it?

I've seen a bunch of misinformed commentary and complaints about the delay to Elite Dangerous Odyssey (PC to May, consoles to Autumn/Fall), where CMDRs are mixing up timelines, or thinking "FDev should have known about the delays", or even thinking "COVID is an excuse".
As this is aimed at me .... let me respond

I don't doubt Covid is affecting Frontier's ability to work. All I said (and do check my original post) was that Frontier don't need to make excuses. I was implying that if they need to delay, then they don't need to justify it with excuses. And it doesn't matter how much you say it's not an excuse, it IS an excuse, because they gave it as a reason, and yes, in my OPINION, it is a pathetic reason.

Frontier also don't need you or anyone to make excuses for them, they are quite capable of defending themselves.

This thread is nuts... We all knew Odyssey will get delayed. It will be delayed a few more times, I don't think anyone who has been around Elite, for couple of years at least, believes otherwise. And yes, it will be delivered in mostly unplayable state, that's how modern gamedev operates, so it's not exclusively FDevs fault here. Lockdown or anything else of course is a factor, but would have been delayed (maybe few less times?) either way, safe to assume it's pretty obvious, eh?

Of course best wishes to dev team, life of the crew is first priority.
But to people who are outraged by delays for one reason or another: BE PATIENT! You may be able to play relatively polished version of Odyssey maybe a year in the future, if you're lucky, that is. Not earlier, I can bet my beard on it.
