What about optional Uniforms that correlate to a military rank Fed/Imp? You could get a White Admiral uniform with the bunch of badges on the chest if you are an Admiral ofc. I think it would look especially cool when Odyssey hits.

So what happens if I am both an Admiral in the Federation and a King in the Empire? I can't wear an Admiral's uniform because that might upset my loyal subject in the Empire, and I definitely can't were the King's uniform (yes King is a military rank, the HIGHEST MILITARY RANK) because that would upset the plebs in the colonies, err Federation Space.

Imagine how lopsided you'd get though with the weight from imperial shoulder pads. A chiropractor's dream.
Oh it will get worse when the new Alliance rank structure is introduced with Odyssey (the latest rumour I just decided to start, want to see how long before it because lore here). Soon someone will have to work out a uniform that shows Admiral, King and Grand Poobar !!!

I think Trebor would be much mintier and warmer, particularly the Extra Strong variety..
I don't think we need a "uniform", because we don't really where "clothes" in Elite Dangerous. We're always in some kind of spacesuit (with optional jacket and pants), and I don't think Odyssey is going to put us in a position where we haven't just stepped out of our spaceship. On planets, you need the suit to breathe, and on stations you'll just have stepped out from your ship - a costume change just to pop down to the shops would be a little weird.
Some way to indicate your faction ranks might be nice, though. You can already show your trader/explorer/combat rank on your shoulders. Some way to show (off) your faction ranks while you're in the space bar might be cool. Maybe Navy style sleeve stripes for the Feds (since they use a lot of navy ranks), and Army style shoulder epaulettes for the Imps (crowns and diamonds and that sort of thing) so that you can wear both?

Right now you're not in military, but you're granted something like security access level named "Admiral" for your freelance services, allowing you to visit certain places and buy certain ships.
If this ever changes, and we'll be able to actually join military, then it would be cool to be able to wear uniforms.
I suspect that the alliance part of the uniform would be relegated to merely the codpiece area...
