Small Ships are often overlooked

does anyone else feel like small ships are often, generally, overlooked?

I like them for their agility and speed & ability to dock at outposts. What i'd really like is more small-ship specific content. Maybe missions than needed you to visit an outpost, or even planets where the gravity effectively prohibited large vessels. Something to encourage people to fly them as they're great, but often overlooked by people desperate to fly the "best" ship they can.

How about..... Missions that COME with a ship? - encouraging people to try different models because when they accept that mission, that's what they're given to complete it in.

I agree small ships are often overlooked, but I feel adding barriers to stop other ship sizes getting places would just end up annoying people - exhibit A is the moaning people still do because outposts can't dock large ships.

I'm always back to my vette when sh*t become serious (wing bounty or so), but otherwise I fly medium or small ship to have fun

well there are ships that have a cool streak, some of them small.

  • viper - engine sound and good fighter
  • hauler - cheapest taxi around
  • sidey - to get from threvitk dock (or so) to dalton
  • cobra mk3 - perfect design, allrounder, fast, beautiful, perfect....
  • dbx - explorer
  • imp eagle - faaaaaaast
but some smalls just have nothing to make them like them:

  • viper 4
  • cobra 4 (???)
  • adder (why)

but then i just see, that a vulture is considered small?? i honestly did not know that. vulture is a killer.

adder (why)

The Viduka is my ‘git gud fast n fixed’ long range patrol ship for local RES sites. Enhanced performance thrusters with dirty drive and drive distributor modification, fixed efficient pulses and a dorsal-mounted C2 short range plasma slug rail gun. It’s a steep learning curve for a mediocre pilot but she’s fast, agile and can hit hard when my aim is true; it’s thrilling to land a crippling blow on a small ship with a single accurate rail gun strike. And though I’m only slowly getting better at getting the most out of her agility she’s surprisingly tough enough to get out of a scrape when I get too big for my boots. Flying a light but agile ship makes me consider more before I open up on a wanted ship, because I have to make the most of my time-on-target, and think twice before I take on something bigger than her. The big rail gun gives her serious punch in close-quarter combat, and did I mention how much fun she is to hoon around planetary bases?

Edit; and just look at that paint job, she’s an MCRN shuttle if ever I saw one ;)

Edited edit: did I mention the around-30Ly range from memory and big ol’ scoop? Perfect fun taxi!

So much of this is so funny in how wrong info can be about small ships, especially once engineering's in the mix.

eg.
Viper 4 = most agile small ship at lower speed.
Viper 3 = fastest ship in game.
Adder = awesome for multirole, fast and weight friendly, and multicrew capable.
Sidey = literally one of the best-flying ships in game once engineered.
Imp Eagle = worst acceleration out of any small ship, if you can't buy the Cobra 4.

Smalls are awesome, and are worth taking the time to get to know properly :)

Terrible.... You clearly know little about "Ships".

Scout =/= bad
No idea why people avoid the DBS. It's a really cool ship. Fast, extremely maneuverable and with some imagination it can pack a really heavy punch while still managing to keep outside enemy line of fire.

I use this build on my DBS for pirate assassination missions (i usually replace the interdictor with another mrp)
And since they usually come in Condas or Corvettes, it makes for some really nice fights.
FDLs are a bit more tricky since they have rather big shields, are faster and have a much smaller profile than a Conda. Still they are fun to play with, trying to keep within 600m to strip them shieldless with those nasty cytos

i play from long time ago and i have all unlocked with plenty of money, have fly in all kind of vessel from meta build for combat trough the large 3 for everything else but after all this time my main ship is the ViperMk3, egineered as hell, i discover a new fun. why one shot the cz with che war cutter or vette when i can be a true hero winning a cz alone with a vipermk3? :D

I like the idea of outposts that only have small pads, and missions that require small ships for some kind of lore reason. I still use a Dolphin or DBX for exploration (especially when the mood strikes to head out to Guardian space) but otherwise I almost never use them (unless I want to wing up with newbies in a High Res in my gank bait Cobra MKIII)
