ObsidianAnt video about odyssey delay.

Edit since the thread title has been moderated no need to mention it now.

But that doesn't excuse the content of the video. The only redeeming feature of which is his admitting that everything in it is pure speculation.

And then some, I'd add.

Lending any credence to the idea that what happened with CDPR's console failure has anything to do with Odyssey or fdev is poor form enough by any old random on the Internet but I thought Obsidian Ant knew better. And rehashing baseless speculation (no, op, not "evidence" as you call it) from three years ago - as a talking point just to attempt to support that fallacy above - that the planetary graphics issue was a deliberate ploy to dumb the pc down to mirror the ps4....

I don't subscribe, personally. But is this typical of the videos he produces? Basically, disingenuous nudging of fdev to suggest it's OK to admit the delay isn't what they said. CDPR admitted they lied, guys... If you did, we won't mind! Just be honest!

Pretty low bar. I watched it through but I can't see any compelling reason to watch any more in future.

I stopped wathcing Mr. Ant's ED videos a long time ago (probably around the 3-year mark, indeed!), due to the rampant speculation that was adding really nothing to what we know about the game and its development.

There are many reason for development delays. I'm in the middle of one myself, which is a combination of overpromising on the part of my bosses and a higher level of complexity than was agreed upon demanded by the client. Another way of reading that is as me failing to do the impossible within the famous two-week time frame. I don't have the COVID excuse as I worked from home before the pandemic hit. But any office having to spread their worker base out and rejig all their workflows and communication paths to fit, let alone the logistics of making sure everybody can work from home with the tools they got, and also ensure they get the time to do so, will inevitably face delays.

And working from home also means relying on internet structures rather than just intranet. It doesn't matter how fantastic AWS's servers may be, the frayed copper wires linking us to them are just as easily the weak link as anything else.

FD has also said in the past that nature of ED makes it complex to make additions to. They also set a very high mark for quality right from the outset.

This may sound like excuses on behalf of FD, but perhaps people should realise that these issues are real and pervasive among all COVID-hit nations. Or take the advise of Cobra Kai's Johhny Lawrence to heart.

:D S

FD's history for releasing (major) updates on time is not stellar, to say the least.
To repeat a question from the other thread: who imposed the Odyseey timescale on them and when? Ditto the announcement of the release.
Covid is a very a convenient excuse (and perhaps a part of the justification), but it has been an issue for almost a year now. (And was when they started taking money for the alpha.).
As always, never pre-order anything seems like sound advice
.
Didn't you make the same point elsewhere and were answered?

True, a few updates were delayed

1.1, 1.2, 1.3, 1.4, 2.0 = all on time
2.1 = delayed 6 weeks
2.2 = delayed 2 months
2.3 = delayed 4 months
2.4 = on time
3.0, 3.1, 3.2, 3.3 = all on time
Apr19, Sep19, Jan20 = all on time
FleetCarriers = delayed by 18 months

The response to this point is surely this : what should they have done different?

When the pandemic started?

During the summer, when it had been largely suppressed in UK and everything (ish) was back open?

During winter when things were getting tougher but not out of control?

And then the week they went on holiday when the new variant was explained as being up to 70% more transmissable, and causing a spike which currently is taking 1200 lives a day in UK?

I mean clearly the decisions they should have made are obvious, so just let us know ...
Obviously, I have no idea the extent to which the changing nature of the endemic covid-19 viruses, or more relevantly, the Government responses have affected FD and its ability to develop Odyssey on the timescale they set - presumably in the context of the pandemic.
If the decisions are obvious, as you say, then please let me know. Although I accept this is probably just a personal attack and you are 'virtue signalling' - or one of their mothers.

OA getting pelters for giving a possible explanation as to why, in his opinion, the delay has occured, covid aside. Then saying that it was speculation.
I say hang draw and quarter him, how dare he!

I don't buy that the whole delay was purely caused by covid either.

However i am sure i must be wrong and should burn in hell for daring to suggest that FD aren't the bestest thing since sliced bread and need to sort a lot of things out in this game.

Since the delayed release of FCs, having lots of FCs in a system causes problems, imo. After this next delayed release, i think things will get worse. Once again, i am sure i am wrong though, the game will run way better and the issue tracker will be fit for purpose as well.

Yes. Hence the 'to repeat a question from another thread:....' part of the text.
Although I do not recall an answer.
Did you not also make your point a few times too ;)
So, the figures didn't provide an answer? Curious...

Oh yes, I make my point lots of times too... It is fashionable here to behave boorishly, is it not?

No, I just live in UK and know the timeline.

I'm not ignorant, in other words. (on this point lol)

The question was who set (or imposed) the timescale on them and when?
I thought your data related to their performance on past 'promises'.

Not my data...
... and you would have been better emailing the developers with your question... They are extremely unlikely respond to it here, which I'd think the majority of us know.
(But than, most of us can be the master of rhetoric)

Can someone sum me up the OA video content please? I fall asleep exactly at minute 2.30 of all his videos.. :sleep:
Comparison between Cyberpunk 2077 & ED in console delay.
Blame on Covid-19 - but are there other development issues... Then back to CP2077 comparison... Consoles on CP2077...
What if Frontier are experiencing difficulties with consoles... his opinion this is so...
Downgrade in PC graphics on release of consoles.. the 'beige plague'... Blame the consoles even though denied by Frontier!
He says pure speculation in one hand... but consoles are being delayed - just like CP2077 has technical issues...
Suggesting Frontier admit to similar issues...

Imagine if Bethesda bought out Frontier.
