Small Ships are often overlooked

I don't fly big ships, can't stand that every single manoeuvre takes ages.

I fly small ships a lot, have quite a few of them and use them on regular basis.

But I don't think it's a good idea to force Cmdrs to use small ships. Let everyone fly whatever they want. Even if it's a flying brick. :p
Nobody should be forced into them I agree, but I have a feeling (or is it simply hope?) that they might come in handy when Odyssey launches - a Sidewinder is much harder to hit by a foot soldier with an RPG than an Anaconda:p

Yes, they have less and smaller gun mounts and less internal slots. That makes them obsolete. It's the way ships are set up.
They are so obsolete that I can do fine in CZs and Haz Res or any CNB with a DBX fully geared up (and can still jump 60ly) and a Cobra III with little effort. if that means "obsolete" I'll go for it anyday :ROFLMAO: I could add to them a Viper IV,a Vulture a DBS, but did not want to be too bold.

Viper sucks balls and needs engineering to survive CZ.

I seriously considered using my new iCourier for my daily bubble-bus but the simple fact is it can't legitimately carry enough limpets to make it viable as I'm still collecting engineering mats along the way in my travels.

That's just one quality-of-life measure I can think of. Divesting limpet ammunition from cargo capacity alone would make small ships more useful, at least to me.

Special missions that punish other ship classes? No, never. Small improvements to make small's a more viable choice? Sure thing.

The best bet for your task is the Cobra III,I like the iCourier too but its internals are...terrible for anything else than running fast and fight.

I mean, before engineering the ships had character. Viper had a purpose. The ships were distinct. Now you just engineer the flaws away. Ships become even more meaningless. The number of internals still trumps everything, just even more pronounced as does the size and number of the hardpoints. You pick a ship for flavour of the day but if you want to do combat there is no real point in gimping yourself with a small ship.

All boils down to efficiency vs. personal choices. One isn't 'better' than the other.

By this, I mean that if someone enjoys flying a small and likes fighting in one, and is bored by any focus on efficiency and following of meta, then they'll prioritise something different.

Equally, if someone can't be bothered engaging with engineers- that's their choice to fly something that's probably more defined as obsolete.

Engineered Vipers, both mk3 and mk4, have very distinct purposes to me. I understand not to you, but that's the thing.

Folks enjoy different things. What you write off as 'flavour of the day' is for others what they're actually enjoying and looking for.

I don't even see it as 'gimping yourself with a small ship'. I'd argue the reverse; you might take longer killing stuff, but why gimp yourself with a ship that sucks the enjoyment out of it by flying like a cattle-laden barge? :D

Going from the Courier to a Cobra would feel, I don't know man, not good at all.
Why not? My full combat Cobra can bost over 600,swap a couple of modules and it can make for a beautifull collecting ship, jumps 45ly,in the Courier you simply don't have interiors to be that versatile. But as always is about personal choices.

That's your opinion of course, but facts point the other way...sorry ;)

I generally play Trade and Exploration.

For trade it is obvious, bigger is better.

Exploration is different. The issue here is the number of slots. Almost all of my slots are full. Taking a smaller ship means I will have to leave something behind. I would like to tasks a smaller ship, however, the game mechanics work against it.

You can fit all the equipment for exploration onto a Dolphin and still break 60LY

Saud Kruger ships tend to fly nice in supercruise as well.

even with exploring, immersion wise, i like medium.

i mean do i want to live 2 weeks in an 25qm flat or 140qm house....

dont know how big the living space withing the ship is, but i suspect there is more room in a bigger ship.

maybe even a small gym in a conda.

Then you should definitely be doing it in a Saud Kruger.

They're luxury cruise ships.
