My oldest memory of TV is the 1969 moon landing. Second oldest is Jon Pertwee as Doctor Who. Third came Open University.

Doctor Who for me too, Planet of the Spiders (the last Pertwee story)...it's probably to blame for my Arachnophobia
Mine are Thunderbirds, Stingray, Captain Scarlet and Batman from the 60s .
Can still remember the music from the Thunderbirds crablogger episode and picture the plane that was trying to land on the vehicles deployed by Thiunderbird 2 - and many others now I come to think of it.

And my daughter loves the old Batman episodes on repeat.
EDIT: And Doctor Who - William Hartnell - though the one I remember most from that time I think was Patrick Troughton. Liked Jon Pertwee too.

I'm really jealous of you guys as this question is one my memory wont allow me to give an answer too, I've seen just about every show listed in this thread but couldn't tell you if i was two or forty-two when i watched them.

My first TV memories are of Doctor Who , specifically the episode where William Hartnel changed to Jon Pertwee , .I must have seen earlier episodes but I guess that particular one scared me the most for some reason...
I also remember watching from behind the sofa, why?

I'm pretty rubbish at remembering my childhood, especially the order in which memories ocurred. My earliest memories of Doctor Who were either reruns of Jon Pertwee, or new Sylvester McCoy episodes. The one where Ace and the Doctor revisit Cole Hill school, and find out the Daleks can float up stairs is the one that I had vivid memories of watching as a child. Without looking it up, I think it was Revelation of the Daleks, but it may have been Resurrection...
Similarly, I have early memories of watching Star Trek: The Next Generation, as it was the only program we were allowed to watch while eating dinner, which actually involved moving the telly into the dining room.

Nope. I didn't need anyone to suggest it, my little brother and I crawled behind the sofa and peeked from behind it!
I never, ever hid behind the sofa when Doctor Who was on. It was only TV and I was quite comfortable that it wasn't real.
On the other hand, when Superman III came out I went to watch it in the cinema with a bunch of other kids about my age (5 or 6 years old). That scene where the woman gets dragged screaming into the machine and is forcibly robo-zombified gave me nightmares for a week and I am given to understand it made several parents have to go out and buy rubber undersheets...

not so much.
I knew it was different, I knew the people talking over it made it matter, which I didn't care for at the time.
I remember seeing more animated puppet shows .
It was a stationary camera with the guys walking around in full sun.. so its like the pong paddles without the ball.
and
'static crackle' Houston.. blah.blah.rock..blah..'static crackle'
I just knew, from what I was told, that it mattered.
so i remembered it.
It's my first TV set memory.
I cant confirm its the first showing, it might have been a post show, but I don't know.
I also remember 'planet of the apes', the TV show, does that count?
I remember it sucked, even at that age. that's a few years later.
