Galnet Update 22 JAN 3307 - Councillor Kaine Campaigns for Alliance Votes

Councillor Nakato Kaine is visiting key systems across the Alliance as part of her bid to be elected as the next prime minister.

Of all the challengers to the incumbent Edmund Mahon, Kaine has the most support from fellow council members. She has represented the Tionisla system for nearly a decade, and is renowned for delivering forceful speeches before the Assembly.

Kaine’s disapproval of the expansionist policies in recent years has struck a chord with people in many systems. She also has a strong reputation among the ‘Old Worlds’, which are viewed as the historic hub of the Alliance.

During a political rally on Leesti, Councillor Kaine directly criticised her election opponent:

“Prime Minister Mahon clearly thinks that the Alliance must mimic the Empire’s arrogance and the Federation’s corporate greed. He has repeatedly led us into conflict with the Thargoid race, risking millions of lives so we could raid their territories like thieves in the night.”

“I believe that we should be inspired by the mutual cooperation that once made the Old Worlds thrive. We must invest in trade and security to benefit our member systems, instead of pretending to be a monolithic superpower.”

well that's a positive statement of intent and could give them a clear purpose amongst the big 3

My guess, she may be using an asp or keelback for campaign bus?

Sirius corp may not care if alliance pulls out of the thargoid areas, so she may be most likely safe from some shenanigans, maybe.

Could we get an official HoloMe of her? We get plenty of characters that make cameos in galnet articles and some end up staying and becoming relevant like the elected marlinist leader Jenna Fairfax. Most of the character images we have are thanks to the powerplay 2d portraits but not every story involves powerplay figures.

But an alliance prime minister candidate definitely needs a face, even if her story doesn't lead to anything.

Interesting ... since none of Tionisla's native factions are Alliance ones, it must have been an independent (or Federal) system in 3300. Describing (at best) "a bit under six years" as "nearly a decade" is a bit of a stretch, I think: I'm pretty certain that Tionisla didn't join the Alliance until after Mahon's term as PM started. (presumably someone in AOS has the exact date?)

...and in the last three years alone, control of the system has changed between the Alliance Rapid Reaction Corps of Zaonce (Cooperative) and the Lave Fortune Organisation (Corporate) three times. Convincing both of those two very different Alliance organisations to keep her as Assembly representative must have required some impressive political skill.

Equally, being able to appeal to both Social and Corporate Alliance factions is pretty much the only numeric way to win the vote in the Assembly, so that shouldn't be all that surprising.

I do think sometimes you are some sort of Elite Dangerous mentat when you go full analysis on things :D

I should probably point out that I did have to look all of that up, so other people have done most of the work in maintaining the necessary data sources :)

I'd noticed that Tionisla had no native Alliance factions on EDDB back when Kaine first got mentioned, and so then I thought to check the archive on elitebgs.app to see how long the ARRC had been in control (and it goes back a fair way, but not to 3300...)

Im dumb in Powerplay, so excuse me if this question is trivial: a win of Nakato Kaine (low chances) means that she will be in control in some exploited systems, and then social factions will be favorized to control the exploited ones over corporates (as those will generate fortification penalties in powerplay)? So the structure of the Alliance systems in the bubble will be changed?

No. Powerplay is about supporting a specific person, not a Superpower or specific territory. Thus, in Powerplay you support Mahon and not the Alliance specifically.
