The Pilot Will DUMPSTER DIVE for NEW SHIPS! | We need changes. Here's a few.

I agree, salvaging parts from crashed ships which can be used to improve your own, or sell on would be a nice feature. Although they should be rare finds if they are particularly good ones, engineered for instance.

There has been mention of salvaging goods from crashed ships In Odyssey, some of which require an SRV to remove as opposed to carrying them on your person.

How this plays out remains to be seen.

Just my opinion, but I think if Odyssey was going to have new ships they would have been teased already. Doesn't anyone recall how far in advance we got a look at the Krait mkII before it was released?

Secondly this is just speculation or maybe wishful thinking but considering that Odyssey is largely about planet surfaces I think new SRVs are more likely. However I'm not sure how this would work as the current one has to practically fold up like an accordian to fit in its bay.

I'm not sure, with the focus on feet then it wouldn't surprise me if a couple of new ships fell into the 'oh and here's a few other things we've been working on...' surprise category...

Trouble with videos like this are:

Triggers people due to 'influencer' resentment / mixed intentions.

Whats in the video? OA gets around this sometimes by posting an explainer or transcript.

There is a suggestions section in this forum- post it there. If not people will then ask, why do this video in the first place?

Having sat through way too many 10-15 minute videos showing me how to unscrew the screws from the bottom of laptops to dissasemble them, when all I am after is a picture with arrows showing me where the screws are because I damn well already know how to use screwdriver and don't need to watch you unscrewing......ad break....16 screws 1 at a time, I now no longer click and watch videos unless they are accompanied by detailed descriptions because most videos are just revenue generating wastes of my time.

You want my attention then you need to actually explain why it deserves my attention and not just say "you need to watch this" because 99% of the time, no, I didn't need to watch, and no, I'm not going to watch it just on your say so!

Well said!

Synopsis?
1. Ship and module salvaging.
Either to refurbish and use or sell for scrap, with the ability to possibly get something better than you currently have. Some talk of EVA and grabbing a derelict ship's power core.

Balance issues galore here, especially if that stuff bypasses the "grind" of or can be better than G5 engineered stuff. It would be like engineers 1.0, only the RNG is on the module/ship's spawned stats instead of the RNG bars and secondaries.
If it isn't better/different than G5ed stuff, the only benefit would be for those who refuse to use Engineers 3.0.
I also wish him the best of luck in yanking the 5 ton fusion reactor out of a Cobra with his hands.

2. Player driven economy.
Basically how Eve Online does it, whether he wants to admit it or not.
Player owned systems/stations, player run factions, etc.

I like that the Elite galaxy doesn't have these and don't want anything past the current BGS (improvements to it are obviously welcome), with maybe a player owned base/carrier that could manufacture commodities if supplied with relevant materials.

3. More ships, even if they're completely useless, since they're more content.

I stopped watching here.
What good is content if it doesn't add anything worthwhile to the game and why in Braben's name would we need ships that could possibly make even the raging dumpster fire that is the Asp Scout look good?

Ironically the problem is the opposite; its pre millennials wanting the written word and not these moving and talking pictophotographisms you call 'video'. If there was a brief synopsis posted with the video half the people here would be fine with it.

Yes I probably shouldn't have picked on the millennials. It seems like instant gratification is a problem for every generation now. Something exploited by journalists, and probably the reason people get their news from headlines rather than articles.

You miss my point. People seem to think video is the medium for ideas, its not. If the post was in written form people could efficiently look at it and debate it. What annoys people is 8 minutes of video that 30 seconds of reading could do better.

Sometimes, a picture is worth a thousand words and I don't want to read a thousand words on the subject, however expressive and convincing.

A waffly video or post is just as bad as each other. A convincing post thats lean and to the point is whats needed.

Ok. The OP, @The Pilot makes a good point for salvage of different types as a game suggestion.

FDev is not listening because it's not under suggestions and even then, probably not being considered.

<<(Moderators, move the thread).

I'm posting this everywhere, because I think it's legitimately important that Elite players and devs see it.

After 30 seconds of listening to the OP video I stopped.

Too many uhhs, uhms, I thinks, uhhhs. I believe deffinetly, uhhh.... . If he has something to say get to it.

And I don't really care to watch a video about what some other gamer wants in ED. And then posting it on a forum claiming its so important. Maybe there is something important further in the video, but who cares. Whatever the "larger issue" it should have been stated in the first 30 seconds, then rest of video backing up whatever the guys thoughts are.

Is there really something crazy important in this video that players and devs really must see? Really? Anything of actual value or importance?

Watched the video. Too big of an emphasis on salvage mechanics, considering it would have to be something built from ground up, and possibly abandoned like loads of other underdeveloped gameplay mechanics. It would be cool to have, sure, but not realistic to even consider having IMHO. I mean, if at least Search & Rescue would have any purpose, things like Black Market, tons of Signals in each populated (and less populated) systems, everything underutilized, useless. But that's content, it took significant amount of dev time and effort to create, I'm sure. But why they just left it to rot? Why not make some gameplay loops which require player to go there, find something interesting? To give it least some purpose? Right now, if you did any of it once, there's no reason to do it again. That being said, there is a game called Hardspace: Shipbreaker. I think OP could have a blast with that.

On other points, improving faction system. Yes, absolutely. Not sure about faction unique ships, though. I'm sure many of us had enough with Fed/Imp grind so, please no. Of course it could be implemented in sensible way, but we're talking about ED here...

To have actual pirate faction and pirate exclusive systems in the game. Yes! And it shouldn't be too hard to implement.

Jameson's being the only spot to have relatively adequate speed of encoded mat generation, must be more ways introduced. Yes, absolutely. Getting more guaranteed G4/5 at certain beacons on land bases, be more generous (trash at least) with spin scan data generation would go a long way too. I get data from maybe 1 ship out of 10, and getting couple of low grade trash mats, while I scan everything that moves. Pain.

Some other points I might have missed. Although, good highlight of the idea of how great platform ED is, which has only foundation, but nothing significant is built upon it. There's good question here for the team, and I ask myself that often too: are they not allowed to be more creative?

As a side note, lately I've been visiting several different planetary installations, bases and ports. It hit me like a truck, that they have somewhat similar layout, but aren't complete copy-paste of each other, and at least look different, even when you're cruising around, in case if they aren't just small POI types, but actual, at least base sized structures. And you know what is absolutely mesmerizing? There is no, I mean NO FREAKING REASON in the world to go there at all. Even if you do planetary based missions often, you might never see even half of available variations. And your visit is just grabbing data real quick bounce from that spot like a bullet. There's no reason to roll around, explore, do anything substantial. But these things must have takes some pretty crazy amount of work, and it's just an expansion!

I somewhat understand why they went that direction they took for Odyssey, but most hilarious part is, they're making same mistake. Now they gonna pull even more resources and work onto something that might interest extremely niche audience of ED. If you aren't thirsting for sci-fi shooter badly, you won't be interested in all that "content" they intend to roll out and it will stay super niche and pretty much as it is now. Honestly, it doesn't make any sense to me from position of game design... Usually, massive systems that require so many resources and dev time are supposed to be much more accessible and publicly attractive. I really don't get it...
