"GAME" Not "JOB"

Started playing bout a year ago now. So far Only thing I've been able to real get into is being a Space Trucker and Miner. thought it would be usual grind to get fighting ship and be space fighter. seemed cool got new ships guns did the Grind. took a break for a while cause i got burned out of coarse. came back and now i get interdicted constantly for no reason no cargo no warrants. used to be able to win the interdick rather easy no matter what ship i was flying. now its dam near impossible and instead of anyone just fighting with weapons everyone just rams my ship till i blow up completely unable to due anything. all weapons and shields offline in sec. So Not only Has this game become more like, as if it hasn't always been a "JOB" not a game.
what I'm getting at does anyone know a cool space "GAME" to play thats not a full time job and actually entertaining to play ??

I think of it as a hobby. A 100 piece jigsaw is completed quickly but doesn't offer much challenge time & time again, a more complex puzzle takes longer but is more satisfying to complete.

It is a game about flying spaceships with guns & armour, NPCs will shoot at you & working out how to survive that can be considered another puzzle to solve, or a skill to learn.

Ramming your ship to death sounds like the behaviour of players rather than NPCs as does almost unbeatable interdictions. Ramming avoids the crime of assault being reported so the police don’t get called in to support you.

There are well known methods for avoiding such players ranging from not visiting systems where it happened to playing in a game mode where it isn’t allowed.

No this is the only space game I play and I find it entertaining most of the time and when I don’t I have a day off, I have heard of other space games but haven’t looked into them yet.

Some more details would be helpful for anyone attempting to offer you gameplay advice.

You say you’re getting interdicted constantly and then rammed to death.
Are you playing in Open all the time?
NPCs don’t use ramming techniques in my experience, but it does sound like you’re getting ganked by players.

Try switching to Solo or Private for a bit until you’ve got your routine, Ship and Flying skills down.

Data Courier missions are a good A to B source of money early on that doesn’t require cargo space or learning trade routes.

Passenger missions are also good for simple A to B routes, just swap your cargo racks for passenger cabins.

Save your credit, get a Viper/Vulture/Cobra, whatever you like or can afford and maybe some Gimballed Multi-Cannons and/or Lasers and learn combat basics.

You don’t need to play 9 to 5 to “git gud” as they say.
But you do need to think about how you’re playing to certain extent.

Take your time, improve your skills, build a ship you like then go back to Open with a newfound confidence and the ability to defend yourself.

What are you flying OP? Beating NPC interdictions is easy peasy unless you are flying something like a type 9, and even then it is possible.

X4, Everspace 1 and 2, No Man's Sky, and if you just want to blow stuff up, House Of The Dying Sun, are some alternate games.

Sounds like you were in open OP. Maybe play in one of the other modes for a bit until you get back in the swing of things. Ram ganking has been a thing for a while now.
Preventing interdiction by actual players is quite hard unless they are quite incompetent. Gankers usually have way more experience at interdicting you, than you do at beating interdictions.

Hi IP,

Assuming flying in open here.

Being interdicted, i suppose, what ship comes to mind? Obvioulsy in SC, the interdicting player has no idea if you have cargo or not. If it was for cargo, I doubt you would be dead if you interact with them - the ramming would suggest a player trying to encourage you to drop cargo. The comms panel is your friend in these circumstances. You say you have no cargo, so possibly not pirate. A pirate will communicate as your destruction occurs or not occurs, their primary motivation is cargo your safety or destruction is secondary.

Some people just want to murder you, and not getting a criminal record would be gameplay to them. You sort of have to fly the ship and avoid the rams? A bit of FA off practise perhaps is needed?

Top top: Always have a Hyperspace destination programmed so you can high wake out of there as soon as the cool down is finished. Its why a lot of people submit, it shortens the cooldown. Surviving a few seconds, check your build more defenses and hull armour, make those seconds into the 10s of seconds and you have a chance to high wake out. Most people are good at the first bit, very few design their ship to do the 2nd. If someone ramming mines are obviously a good weapon as you know they are coming at you.

Are you signed up to a Power?
Whether you have cargo or not, that makes you game for players of opposing powers. If you are, and you do not need to be signed up, perhaps leave your power?

Either way, make a note of who destroyed your ship, and last contacts from the comms menu.

Just play in solo or private group modes if you don't want to be bothered by meta gamers and don't be lulled into thinking that open is the real game mode or whatever. It might be for some based on what they want out of the game, but it's highly subjective.

I played in open almost exclusively for the first year or so, but the meta and power creep got too silly for me after that (not just an issue with combat either). Not quite the ideal immersive sci-fi galactic sim game I was hoping for anymore, but still the best offering out there for me at least.

It's a balancing act to make the most of it. Play your game.

Why didn't you just say 'I hate being interdicted and wish I was better at playing this game - can someone help or give advice please?'

Instead you come to a game's forum and ask for a 'good game' to play. So it was a good game when you were doing well, but now bad when you hit an obstacle and can't cope?

I understand some do not like to admit they are not as good as they like to think they are. I even get coming to the forums for a rant, but what you describe has always been part of the game - even back when you enjoyed it - being attacked was still a part of the game.

If you are in open, maybe consider solo and practising - as you say, a game is to enjoy, not be endured.

At the moment you are finding you have hit a rough patch in a game you have enjoyed - with help from those more experienced you will get better. You will not always win in open - but you're not silly enough to think you will win every confrontation(?) There will always be someone better than you!

I hope you get advice/help you seek and improve your gameplay, so you can enjoy this game as you did before. <O

We must be playing different games, because in my game during jousts they ram like crazy mofos even on the verge of destruction.

They do occasionally, at which point it can affect you if you let them fly into you. I certainly couldn't describe it as regular npc behaviour though, or unavoidable in any way.

Given how utterly avoidable npc interdiction remains too, I agree that OP sounds like he's in open and is getting rammed by gankers, in which case his options would seem to be git gud or return to solo/private group. Or block people, but that's not really a method I'll ever advocate when it's legitimate gameplay a player is facing.
