Carrier Trading

last night, I put about 3000 tons of stuff I'd mined in my commodity market at relatively high prices, but still enough to make a profit to buy and sell somewhere that buys at the best prices to save me from carrying it there. This morning, it's all gone and AFAICS, I've got 1/2 billion for it.

Here's my question: Do NPCs buy from your commodity market or did some enterprising commander figure out he could make good profits on my stuff and work through the night delivering it?

Is there any way to see who bought my stuff, like the traffic reports you get in a station? If so, where is it?

Inara has updated to include a lot of information about Carriers but I don’t think it includes data about who has bought or sold to your Carrier. It does include information about any Cmdrs currently docked (although just how accurate the information is with update times I couldn’t say,) so it may be the information is there somewhere.

I‘m new to having a trade Carrier so trying to garner information and experience myself. One thing I have learned is that if you provide a decent enough deal you’ll find your cargo sold (or delivered if you’ve a buy order) pretty quickly.

I sold Tritium to a Cmdr near the Witchhead Nebula as they were willing to pay very good money. Found the information via Inara and I clearly wasn’t the only one as, despite not instancing together, someone else was obviously there doing the same thing.

I’ll have a look at Inara now.

EDIT: I can’t find an historic list of Cmdrs who’ve docked, bought or sold on Inara but it’s been a while since I sold anything so whether that information has dropped off I don’t know.

Also, no I don’t believe NPCs actually buy cargo from your Carrier. If that’s incorrect I’m sure someone will put me right.

I think it was probably the latter, I don't think NPCs can buy commodities from you.

On the opposite end of that, I've had my Carrier set up to buy Tritium at 100,000cr per ton all week and some enterprising CMDRs have made themselves a tidy profit and sorted me out with about 5000 tons of FC fuel.
It's a lovely deal that seems to work out well for everyone as with profits I make from Bounty Hunting I've been still been making a small profit and at the very least breaking even.
It also saves me the hassle of fuelling it up myself and some lovely people even appear to have donated about 500 tons, not sure why when I gladly buy it for twice the galactic average but i appreciate it all the same.

Either generous Cmdrs or ones like me who when first trying to sell ended up donating, you learn fast though :)

Either way, it's been working out very well for all involved since the combat payout buff.
A days worth of pirate hunting pays for about 1000 tons of Tritium so I think it's going to become a permanent feature of my FC from now on and my carrier balance is nicely sitting at about 4 Billion cr.

I do move around a lot though so catch me while you can (y)

Maybe like the way Fd have made the markets dynamic, I need to put up my prices - or should I just leave it like it is to make some commanders happy, as I don't need the money?

It's entirely up to you but if you don't need the cash and you're happy with the current results, I'd say leave it as is.

Before the combat buff I was buying Tritium at the galactic average and getting any was slow trickle if at all, but I mostly needed the money for FC upkeep.

Now I'm making bucket loads from combat I doubled the price, still make a profit and have more fuel readily available than I've ever had before.

If it ain't broke don't fix it (y)

I believe it's been a constant gripe since Carriers came along.......NPC's don't buy or sell to your Carrier.

Imagine if they did how many cmdr's would just leave their Carrier's Clogging up the bubble Systems;)🤣

I thought I'd been swindled by whoever bought my stuff last night because later today, I figured out that my credit balance hadn't gone up between last night and this morning. I went through all my log file getting more and more enrged as I confirmed it, then suddenly the penny dropped. The profit gets added to your carrier's balance, not your own credit balance. Oh well, at least that'll keep it going for another 5 months.

Another couple of questions: Do you get fined for loitering on your own carrier? If so, who gets the fine money? What if other commanders land on your carrier and get fined for loitering? Do you get the fine money for that?

Aaaaaand that’s another 1000 tons of Tritium that’s been sold to my carrier while I’ve been out pirate hunting and upgrading my one of my ships today.

The lovely space truckers have brought me about 6000t of it this week and I’ve still got about 3.8 Billion in the carrier bank.

This is way better than endless back and forth trips refuelling it myself.

Anyone who says carrier markets are crap is just plain wrong! 😂

Two trips in my cutter gets 1588 tons and takes only 5 minutes. That's enough for 6300 LY. It is too easy and quick to get fuel. I don't understand the fuss about getting your own fuel within the bubble.

I’m lazy, not a trader and don’t own a (rank locked) Cutter.
It’s too easy and quick to have other players bring me the fuel for money when I’ve got plenty from killing pirates 😘

Good points. However, the T9 is not rank locked and it actually holds slightly more than a cutter. And you don't have to be a trader to buy fuel. So, really, it comes down to your last "reason". 😀

Yeah, I'm just rich & lazy...I'll happily get others to do the stuff I can't be bothered with for large amounts of money so I can go off and shoot pirates 🤣

No. NPC do not buy. Yes: a person who knows how to play the game found your stuff and took it away. 3000 tons are about 5 cutterloads, so no big deal. And No, you can´t see who did something on your carrier.
