Does anyone else play with music off?

I must be in the minority here because I love the music in ED particularly the sombre piano track that kicks in when driving the SRV and the creepy ambient music at the crashed Thargoid motherships.

Good music really makes a big difference for me in games, Cyberpunk 2077 is a great example despite its on going issues.
Spent hours running round in that game deliberately into fights just to hear the awesome battle music tracks again and its radio stations also feature Black Metal, Industrial Metal, Cyberpunk (no surprise) and a sweet Nine Inch Nails remix.
GTA IV: The Lost & Damned was another great one. It had a station hosted by Max Cavalera (of Sepultura/Soulfly/Nailbomb fame) a featured about 2 straight hours of Punk & Metal 🤘

Maybe it's because I'm a musician as well as a massive nerd...couldn't live without good tunes

Oh and as for the COVAS voices, I paid good money to have Hol...I mean Leo accompany me whenever I go (seriously the best £5 I've ever spent on a cosmetic) so I've never turned the computer voice off.

I just wish once, just once he'd greet me when I log in by saying "What's happening dude?"

I've found it to be quite beautiful listening to the ship sounds and PA over the station ambience, without being distracted by what the game thinks it wants me to feel. I tried it once and didn't look back.

Has anyone else tried this, or is it just me?
The only game I play with the music turned on is NieR:Automata.

I have nothing against the music itself, I just think the game is nicer with just ambient sounds - ED has IMO pretty premium soundscape work.

I usually just keep the music on in strategy and RPGs, but shooters and sims tend to work better without background music.

The music was made for this game, it suits it perfectly.
I could see turning it off temporarily to focus more intently on something, but turning it off indefinitely and then substituting it with whatever the kids listen to these days is criminal.
Classic rock, metal, pop, almost none of it suits space games at all.

I'm glad you are not in my Squad team. :D

"Hey D Noize, anything there? I think I saw some movement there, the OpFor might be creeping towards the FOB."
"Whaaa....??"

Yeah, all you'd hear coming through the comms would be shrieking & blast beats, gabba kicks & breakbeats or maybe some 80s style cheese when I'm in the mood for something lighter...

I had a bit of a strange reputation at my old job 🤣

Absolutely.Just about the first thing i turn off in any computer game is the music.. The sound of my engines is music to my ears.and if i feel like joining in i'll use pips and the scunners.

I enjoyed the music at first, then turned it off after playing a few hundred hours, having heard it all already many times. Sometimes I play external music and I highly recommend Brian Eno for Elite. The Ship is excellent.
As for other games, the GTA series has some of the best (and funniest) soundtracks in gaming, and Cyberpunk's pretty good too. Unless it gets in the way of critical sounds, or is genuinely repetitive, then I don't care enough to turn it off

Not just the music, but I mute ED Covas as well.

I use VA and HCS voicepacks which duplicate some of what ED Covas voices provide.

I love waltzes, but after playing for extended hours, the music is off.

As far as the background chatter, I've tuned that out as well and in regards to the comms, I glance at them briefly and can surmise quickly if they deserve any attention.

I've also shut the countdown voice, monotonous after the nth time.

Sometimes, silence is golden.

I was just about to say "yeah, i usually have it off"... but it's on (and would have been for a while now). Guess that's how much i notice it >.>
