Neighbouring surface ports

Don't know how I missed this thread as I'm a huge fan of this sort of thing myself.

The main one (already mentioned) is Elwood Camp to Ferguson Prospect on Wasat A2E - a superb candidate for base to base SRV racing.

Another new find. Carpenter Keep and Wood Camp - 181km apart! Both are dockable, too. HIP 862.

This time I present to you Y'all Youll Enterprise and Shosuke Port, ~160km apart. So far on my list, this is the closest pair of a planetary port (round city-like port) and a planetary outpost (everything else dockable); a distinction the game doesn't quite make. They occupy a planet with a radius of 813km 28 ls from the main star. Wuonanie system.

Awesome examples! Definitely adding those to my todo list for when I get back from Colonia.

It only has one planetary port so doesn't really belong here, but I'm posting anyway as somewhere to keep this potato.

There's one dockable port and 2 installations, one's on the backside and not visible. Not sure about distances but ~2500km round:

Can you believe it was almost 5 years ago we first raced there!

Wow!
I wish I'd gottern involved with you lot and buckyballing back then.

~364km and ~764km to the port.

It's a potato! so I'll add it to the list. While I'm not specifically looking for ports-settlements, I'm keeping a list of those if I find any along the way. So they too are welcome! :) Besides, Auld Colony is a planetary port (and not a planetary outpost), and I will be examining those separately to hopefully find places like Molchanov Point and Miletus Beacon (see page 1).

Great finds! Will add all to my visit list.

It's a shame none of these have compatible economies, I'd love to fly missions or trade between cities in the same planet, even at low profits, as I much prefer to fly in normal space rather than in supercruise.

At this point, I'm only posting rather extreme examples on here, but there will be a complete list once I'm done searching. As of right now, there are already 42 entries, and I'm almost halfway through.

I'll be an extremely avid reader of your list for sure, so consider me a subscriber :)

I'd love to find possibilities of intra-planet gameplay, been looking for something like that for ages. Closest I ever found was Alcazar's Hope in Merope, which is only around 30km away from 2 barnacle sites, I thought "great I'll make a living for a while collecting meta-alloys and selling them to Alcazar's Hope". Unfortunately the 2 barnacle sites are dead, and no longer produce any meta alloys, so plan ruined...

I've been interested in this type of stuff too but from the angle of trying to figure out if there's any planets with exceptional surface POI density.

Wrote a script last night to find planets with a good radius/settlements ratio from existing data dumps that should make good candidates for this and the best I found after jumping and flying to around 10 systems in-game were:

Jarowair 2
Zetford Enterprise - Tanaka Works ++ ~100km

Gunapa AB 1
Gibson Vision - Stott Town ~221km (both landable ports)

LP 349-51 1
Gwynn Beacon ++ - Meyrink Hub ++ ~80km

Kuntae A 1
Heinlein Works - Werber's Progress ~128km

Finding planets that have stuff at around 300km apart seems fairly easy with that method. Unfortunately the dumps don't have the exact locations of things so I can't do an automated search for the actual closest planetary things.

Interesting new find. Two very close outpost-outpost pairs in the same system (CD-22 12617).

Silves Base - Eschbach Observatory (53.7 km). You can barely see Silves Base from Eschbach Observatory. However, it's too dark right now, and hard to see on a screenshot.
Anvil Base - Warner Hub (89.2 km).

Quite the view at Silves Base/Eschbach Observatory and Anvil Base/Warner Hub:

Are those the closest you've found so far mate @Beer Attack ? And can I ask how much you have checked, because I enjoy this work!
At this point I only report new leaders in their own category or overall but record everything otherwise. So far, there are 15 pairs in the range of 0-100 km, 39 pairs in the range of 0-200 km and 86 pairs in total (up to 700 km). I've looked at 11k bases out of 21k in total.

The latest find is a settlement-settlement pair, and while I don't focus on settlements, I try to record them as well if I find any that qualify. Settlements are present in pretty much every single populated system, and it would take an eternity to check every single one. The fact that I've randomly stumbled upon the above pair means there could be better examples. I will however be looking for settlements near planetary ports (see Molchanov Point - Miletus Beacon).
