Migration to PC worth it?

So I've been playing on Xbox since forever.

Facing Odyssey and me not willing to get the next gen console, I am thinking of migrating to PC.

However, I need to buy the game again and only credits can be transferred.

So what would you do? I am thinking of starting all over again in Elite rather than selling all my assets for maybe two billion credits. All the ships and especially the painful engineering must be redone anyway shudder.

I simply want the game to look better and enjoy mouse (maybe joystick) precision.

get a new account and start fresh. it's good fun. of course you can transfer credits and do the fresh start on xbox as well. btw. - personally most of the time flying with a xbox controller on PC :)

Sniping Thargoid hearts is a bit difficult for me using controler as well es aiming with weapons like PE. Mouse should do the trick.

Alright, see you soon on PC, o7

It's not clear if you're buying a pc or already own one (I'll assume the former but if it's the latter, knowing your specs would help answer your question too)

No one picked up on this yet but just wanted it to be clear, fdev have been very straight about telling us they're optimising Odyssey so it'll still work similarly to current platforms. So the idea that your choice is get a new console or buy it for pc isn't accurate, you can opt to do neither.

I play it on pc and I also use mouse, so can attest that Elite is fantastic on the platform with that control method. Maybe ultra preset looks better than consoles, I'm guessing it does. Just, don't feel you must spend lots of money on a pc just for Odyssey. It'll unlikely require anything more than the current recommended (not minimum) specs of Horizons and a new pc now will hugely overkill that.

I recently spent a lot of money on a new pc and sure enough it runs the game in ultra but it can actually smoothly run two ultra clients simultaneously, so that goes to show how little a brand new pc is needed. But I own a pc for so much more than Elite and a lot else beyond gaming too.

That said, if you've already got the rig to smash Horizons, I say why not? It's dirt cheap right now. Starting again isn't a big deal, it's easy enough, but the size of how big a deal it is depends entirely on you, not our thoughts.

This all depends of course on if you've got a pc (if you don't, whether you're getting one anyway) and what specs it has, really. Assuming better than your xbox and capable of recommended Horizons then it just comes down how precious you are about your current save. I'd not like to ditch mine, personally.

Just a case of weighing the benefits of the pc version against that, really. And I don't think anyone else can help you make that decision.

Just create a new account. If you have a carrier or know anyone who has one, you can already transfer credits to your new PC cmdr by buying/selling. Who knows, you may need your old Xbox cmdr for something anyway! Another great thing too is you can use your xbox controller on PC so you'll pick it up right away and make your new cmdr perfect!

No no, I already have a pretty decent Razer Blade gaming laptop from 2019. It can easily run titles like Iron Harvest or Everspace 2 to my content, usually on max settings with 60 fps at least.

I just want to move my gaming experience completely to PC and enjoy mouse precision, especially facing fps combat in Odyssey.

Thank you for all the great input. You got me motivated!

I'd just buy it anyway. Give it a try with a new account.

If you're sold, consider selling all assets and transferring credits over but by the time you're a few weeks in you'll know either way.

It's a shame you missed the Epic freebie but I think you can pick up Horizons for less than £10 these days. In that case, the worst case is you'll own two accounts and maybe only use one.

VR imo is the only thing that would make it worth it but I still wouldn't do it because I worked hard and long to get my stats and mats and such. Not to mention I have like 5 squadron trophies on ps4 2 of which are first place.

One thing you may not have enjoyed on Xbox which is more readily available on PC is the addition of 3rd party apps for Elite. These can be quite immersive

Get a PC and a hotas.
After a month you will wish you had done it earlier.
Sure, you will need to start over, but you will be up to speed with All engineering done in a month 🙂

Alright, I used to make my money with passenger runs at Xi Wangda, if I remember correctly, but this was two years ago.

Now, mining is the way to go, I heard... but no need to rush though. I want to work my way up through ships this time. Are missions the best option for that?

if you are not in a rush then you want to do exploring... completely random jump to random systems and scan the systems...
Missions make to much money as the starter system Boosts the pay out now... Due to the boost in mission pay out in starter systems its to fast...
Youll be in a cobra very quickly doing missions but they are slower than Love tap bounty killing in high res with AI...

Its to easy...

Do not know if console can, but VR on a PC revolutionises the game for many and may be the incentive you need to start again.
Said it before, it is the difference between being 'in the game' and watching a cartoon on TV.
Of course you will need decent hardware - and probably a hotas; and odyssey will not be VR, of course
Just a thought.

Yes start again with a new account and keep the other one good fun and as been mentioned you have the experience now I have three pc accounts on three pc and good fun for your own multicrew (when it works) it can help getting some extra credits in for the noob.

I agree with most on here. I’d say get a copy for PC and start over. PC is the superior platform in many ways (mod-able UI, can use tracker apps, voice attack, can adjust graphics and visuals, VR). You can play at your PC or hook up a steam link and stream to TV for that console experience when you don’t feel like playing at your PC. More controller options. It’s just a far better platform.

Just start again. Credits are easy to come by, but the engineering and rank progress you will lose by transferring will take much, much longer to regain.
