Never fly without rebuy...

Yeah anyone can dock in a small/medium ship. I only ever died to docking (once I wasn't a total noob) once I went to large ships. The margin for error is just so much less, and the mailslot doesn't even seem like it was sized with the larger ships in mind.

I feel for your friend because it's honestly lame getting killed because of a mistake. The game needs better ways to detect what is an accident and what is pure malice imo.

Why? The player made several basic mistakes and learned a very valuable lesson or two...

Not least the one in the title, but also the one about learning to walk before trying to run...

You might find as you go through life that a shred of empathy toward your fellow human wouldn't kill you.

This is just a game guy. Just relax. Real life teaches you lessons, people don't play games to "learn lessons" they play to have fun.

Everyone knows crime and punishment is ED is a joke system, I don't think tuning it to punish players for mistakes without outright murdering them is a bad idea. I'm not cheering what he did, but nor do I think he should be clubbed over the head for it either.

I know right ! I was laughing my *** off when he got stuck cause I knew what was gona happen 10 seconds later.
He's stubborn and wants to figure stuff out himself. Bad game for that kind of mentality >< He learned the hard way.
Don't be too hard on your friend, learning for yourself, even if it's the hard way, is the best way to learn.

When he got to the mission destination and tried to manually dock on the station, he got stuck in the entrance and his ship blew up.

He then rage quit and will probably not play again for some time.

tragic. i wish the galaxy could ever recover from such devastating loss of a cmdr, he will be dearly remembered and no, you can't have his stuff.

Not sure what you are saying, or how its relevant to my above reply. Or to this thread.

I think some are less interested in what's "good" for people, or the game, and more interested in dunking on someone for having a bad experience and playing how they don't "think they should". Even though the Devs expressly said there's no "wrong way" to play Elite. There, does that clear things up for you?

Yes he should have had a rebuy, or at the very least a docking computer, but I can forgive him for his ignorance considering the circumstances.

I think your reading comprehension needs work:

Blocking mailslot intentionally = malice
Blocking mailslot because of landing failure = accident

One is worthy of death, the other is not.
Keep in mind this is a universe where loitering is punishable........ by death. And you don't even want to know what they do to Jaywalkers. Poor Vinny, he was never the same after the empire let him out of prison.... smh.

LMAO I know! You can literally go on a murder-spree killing cops and get away with paying a fine. But don't you DARE hover over that landing pad too long..... :ROFLMAO:

I remember the first Beluga I bought (pre-ADC days), it was really (but sadly) very funny as I jammed in the toast rack on the way out after buying it, wiggled free with a few seconds to spare...
Set course for the tourist station in a system 8Ly away, got stuck in the toast rack on the way in, made it through, landed and sold it...

The second one I bought I fitted a DC in... Still had a tickle of the toast rack on the way out, but requested docking permission once clear and watched the computer do the job.

I never got stuck again after that as I knew where the Buluga should be positioned to clear everything 🤷‍♂️

The mail slot is perfectly big enough for every ship in the game.
Even in a T9 or cutter.... But a 17 year old with L plates would not jump into an 18wheeler and then choose to drive it down tiny roads in a built up town......
It's a learning path we all go down. Problem is with the money earning potential as broken as it is players are still learning how to dock and fly with basic competence whilst buying high end ships when really it should be in adders, eagles,.sidewinders and what not. The pain is managable then.
