Make the Type 7 a medium ship

It'd actually be quite a change to achieve this. The T7 is large because its height extends just a few metres or so above the maximum headroom of a medium pad. To make it medium fdev would have to remodel it.

Not saying they shouldn't do this. Just... It probably won't happen.

I doubt they will redesign the existing Type-7,

What you want is the Type-7 Mk II.

A T8 then?

Did the Lakon buyout actually go through? Might be a future project for their new owners...

We do have
Viper Mk III and Viper Mk IV

and of course the all time favourite combo
Corbra Mk III and Cobra Mk IV

but that might only be a Faulcon DeLacy naming thing.

If only this hadn't been talked about hundreds of times already.

If only the forums had a search function.

If only FDev had made a mistake and not designed the ships exactly the way they wanted them.

If only FDev had given cow pat about its in game economy.

If only there weren't other viable, alternative ships that fitted on a medium pad.

And you don't see the balance problem with the current situation?
Reducing the size of the Type 7, it could lose some of its cargo hold, but not much. As it is, the price per ton of cargo hold between the Types 6, 7 and 9 is pretty much in line. Though not necessarily a straight line.
I agree there, we do need another medium ship that can hold a similar capacity to a Python- especially after the slight increase to solo delivery cargo amounts which doesn't leave much room in any other medium ship.

I'd still see this being in the 35-45mil range (depends on how internals would look) because of how useful a ship like this would be if trading was your thing.

I'm not arguing such a ship isn't a gap currently though.

Really.

A multi role ship like the Python should not have the biggest cargo hold.

Has this been said before?
It needs to be repeated then.

There have been a dozen threads on this topic. IIRC, there might even have been one just a week or two back.

I'd rather they didn't shrink the ship though to make it fit on a medium pad. I like its chonkiness.

Its not like its a major issue in most cases not being able to land at outposts.

How much extra internal space would satisfy you to keep it as a large ship? An extra size 6 slot?

How much more should the ship cost in return for the extra capacity?

What if its not the type 7 that is the issue? (although personally i'd like to see 2 of those small hardpoints changed to medium for mining purposes).

What if it is the Python that is the issue? And perhaps the Krait Mk2 as well. Perhaps they are just too good!

What if its time for a nerf!

If Frontier reduce the height of the Type-7 so it could fit inside a medium hanger they would have to reduce the cargo capacity.

Python - Multirole with 294 cargo potential
Type-7 - Specialized transport ship with 310 cargo potential, and you want to nerf it to less than the python?

Same as the clipper. Make it a medium ship and the first thing you lose is the class 7 slot.

It would be a great change! That class 7 slot takes over half of the clipper optional module space so they could get rid of that and redistribute it in smaller sizes. For comparison, the python gets so much more space than that because instead of a class 7 slot it has 2 size 6 slots and 2 size 5 slots, which is much more powerful - while still rocking a size 7 power plant and power distributor.

There are only a few ships which should be large pad only:

1. Cutter.
2. Corvette.
3. Anaconda.
4. Type 9.
5. Type 10.
6. Panther Clipper.

That is all. :D

I don't want to nerf it but if Frontier ever allow us to walk round our ships including the cargo bays how can they justify the current cargo space if the physical size of the ship is smaller due to reducing the height?

Modules have mass and size but their exact volume is unknown to us. Frontier has already changed ship module quantity/sizes in the past and they never come with a dimension change so I don't believe ships have been balanced with such precision in mind. Examples that I remember are the FDL PP size (from 5 to 6) and more notably the T9 optional modules (extra size 8 slot added).

People saying these ships should be nerfed clearly have no idea what they're talking about. NONE of these ships are what you'd call 'good'. Giving them medium pad access wouldn't make them overpowered, it would just make them slightly less awful.

The T7 would be cheaper and have more cargo than the Python, but would still be unable to core mine and would still suck at combat. The Python would remain the premier multirole ship.

The one thing nobody can deny is that the T7 is currently useless. This would be a quick and simple way to fix that problem. So lets hurry up and do it already.
