[GALNET] Warning of Ship Abductions by Fleet Carriers by nasty people

Pilots Federation ALERT
This is an emergency bulletin to alert independent pilots that kidnappers are operating in the vicinity of the HR 6828 system.
The Pilots Federation has received reports of untrustworthy offers being made to Commanders who recently obtained their pilot’s licence.
These involve the owners of Drake-class fleet carriers enticing a pilot to outfit their ship for mining operations, before docking with the larger vessel. It then makes a series of jumps, to a distant star system over 800 light years away, taking the docked ship with it.
The Commander is encouraged to work on mining hotspots in order to produce income for the fleet carrier. However, their own ship’s limited jump range means they are effectively marooned, and reliant upon the fleet carrier to be returned to their starting system.
All pilots are therefore advised to beware of hails directing them to HR 6828 or systems in that area. It is also important to exercise extreme caution when docking with any fleet carrier whose owner is unknown.
The Pilots Federation has requested that this bulletin be shared by all members across public channels. It has also been distributed to major newsfeeds including The Alliance Tribune, The Federal Times, The Imperial Herald and Vox Galactica.

I read an article about this from salon.com today (don't blame me, blame my newsfeed) where the writer managed to find a 7 year old player who got roped into this and then immediately dived into hyperbole about it being the "cyber equivalent of enticing children into vans with promises of puppies" - and all with no obvious signs of sarcasm.

Talk about "flying off the handle"!

Honestly, these "slavers" have my appreciation.
Anybody who's daft enough to get suckered and daft enough to not ask for help in-game, or on the forum, or on reddit, or on twitter, or on discord, deserves to spend the rest of their ED life mining VO's for somebody else.

Nah, hyperbole is a sport now.

Do I sense an opportunity for my Nautilus-Class Carrier ?

Perhaps the fleet carriers owners club could send out a rescue mission to help restore the reputation of us "reputable" owners?
(By reputable I mean busy murderers, thieves and warmongers)

By "rescue mission", you mean
  • fly out to that mining system (wherever that is)
  • offer a free trip to the bubble for all CMDRs there
  • fly out to the Colonia bubble
  • decomission the carrier?

As long as the player makes more in profit than what they paid for their ship I have no sympathy for them. That early in game they couldn't have paid more than a few million which would be recovered in a very short amount of time even at dirt low buying prices. Just self destruct and take the freewinder back to the bubble.

For this, they would need to know about the suicidewinder option. And it would cost them their brand new shiny mining ship. Some people just starting out tend to be attached to their ships.

Well Colonia's expansion seems suspiciously fast ! ;)

Whilst this scheme appeals to me, I couldn't really bring myself to do it - although it would be quite an "emergent gameplay" adventure, I guess.
I just know I'd end up looking after them.

Understandable. Alot get attached to the "crib" systems too and are distressed when they are unknowingly evicted. You live and you learn. Stay a slave or loose the ship.

I don't get it. It's like they wouldn't want to play a space game. Leaving the system was the first thing I did. Well, after docking at station, taking mission and robbing the platinum for myself. I don't even know it's name anymore. Some LHS system maybe? The next looked just the same, then the next, the next and the next. Took quite a while to see something unique.
