Dev input on the forums

Isn't it so that when you have forums for your product(s), that's basically the first place you notify people of things and communicate at? Talking, most recently, about the server problems yesterday. Devs did say something over twitter, but nothing here.

Holy crap that's.... infuriating. THIS is the place where you should first and foremost communicate with your damn clients, not some random web site! Not everyone even has twitter accounts.

I know this won't change anything but just wanted to get that out there. Get your gods damned act together, Frontier!!!! How much harder is it to make a reply on your own forums than over twitter? HUH?!?!? Ridiculous.

A forum member since 2016 and you haven’t made peace with this, admittedly annoying, fact?

I gave up looking for immediate communications from FDev about bugs and issues here a long while back and accept that I need to Google a site I don’t use just to get the latest info first.

You can avoid this by just scouring the forums for the first angry thread about, insert issue here, and get the information only slightly second hand....but potentially full of ire, misconceptions and nonsense.

That's right! :D And like I said, I know this won't change anything.

Look, even if I am being force fed manure - I don't need to like it. You neither. You do not have to lie down and surrender. You can always have some fire in you still.

It's true, if there's a problem with the servers you'll know first by the threads being created here. The fact fdev respond on twitter rather than the forums, shrug

Yes, why not look at twitter too? Sure, it really doesn't come up to me as the first thing to do though. Honestly it's wrong and there's no reason to defend their modus operandi.

I do not like forums. I like twitter and social media in general even less, and since they have a forum of their own, this of course naturally ought to be the number one place they communicate at. The way the forums are now, they might just delete them. Would be better, actually. So you wouldn't, in vain, look for dev response on their own forums.

And yes, developer input on server issues is important, truly. Can't understand anyone needs to ask that tbh but ok.

Fight the Power ✊

No, joking aside I get it. However, for me there are so many things in this game that could do with change trying to sway FDevs preferred CM channel isn’t where I’d focus my energy.

...but it is amazing that their own forum is utterly ignored.

To be fair - they don't respond much on twitter either :)

The helpdesk on Twitter does tweet about issues, but the EliteDangerous twitter doesn't tend to (e.g. the network issues yesterday weren't announced, though there was a tweet about them ending).

It is pretty poor: PS4 account issues you would think they would have some comment after a month, or ongoing network increased error rates (up over several months). Even if it's just a 'we are aware'. Ah well, I don't understand CMing 🤷‍♀️

Yea I have zero hopes I can make any difference with one silly thread, especially regarding this. Just wanted to vent and share. I am seriously fed up with the general lack of effort and quality all around us these days. Prices go up, quality goes down. Mind you, I'm turning 45 next so it comes extremely natural for me to whine about, well, everything. Because everything deserves it. Almost nobody does anything well, the least of all their damned jobs. These days. Bring back serfdom!

I find Forums (and webpages) are a bad source of information as they have difficulty being up-to-date and visually relevant.
Where as social media is instant.
And I hate social media as it’s hard to keep a
Timeline of events and come to the correct “start”

You take the forums. The first post of the thread is the oldest, and threads need to be pinned and then Unpinned with irrelevance.

Go look at turning the dark wheel thread, where current status on the forums are in the latest messages on that thread, which could be buried in a flamewar.
Newsletters, and Dev-change-logs also get lost due to flame-wars, necros, shifting the agency of the thread on the message boards hierarchy.

However, sticky-ing a thread and editing the opening posts with the current status is also being confusing, because the OP might not work at Frontier, or lost their account, and the thread date is from 4 years back, so does that mean that parts of that post is relevant information for the day, or is there old information what has not been pruned away from that first post.

interstellar initiates struggled to inform players of the overall campaign structure and how the weekly goals factored into the campaign because of this.

Sometimes I think we code-repository tools and not a forum.
Latest dev posts, Change-logs, newsletters, popped to the top, and the others tabbed away.

We’ve been asking for the last 5 years....one fine day in the future.

What I mean is now you know they post on twitter, that's the place to check.

I will likely forget that tho :D

I knew it before, but because it just doesn't occur to me to look at social media before the forums. I refer to my age again; it's at times hard for me to grasp how things change.

To be fair, the multi-page threads that almost instantly emerge when a server outage occurs don't really need official confirmation.

Now, if you don't use the forums but use twitter, having an official tweet is probably useful.

Dev input on the forums

We don't want their kind here this is a local forum for local people!
