All valid points. Except, instead of going to the press for a clickbait article, they could've come here, or to reddit, or to support or whereever,
and get help.
Hell, the Fuel Rats, Hull Seals and individual CMDR were already en-route to save them. This is the story that should've been reported.

Of course it wasn't because clickbait, but the heroes should be sung!
I posted elsewhere because I really didn't want to get buried under the praises of 42 (my towel is safely beside me), but anyone who doesn't know about the freewinders doesn't know about the Fuel Rats, and probably has no idea how to contact anyone in game once they're in the middle of nowhere.

This needs to not happen again. FDev was right on this.

Your thread got buried as duplicate, just for the record, I didn't report it, I just was quick enough to inb4lock.

If they don't know to contact support or google for official forums, but find polygon, they got what they deserve 😁

The first thing that shocked me about playing Elite was that it had an MMO mode, but no global chat channel beyond System. Which in a game with 400 BILLION systems is, uh, yeah not cutting it.

That simple thing would have stopped this scheme cold before it even began.

It seems that there needs to be a new tutorial. "How to self-destruct when you have made bad choices."
Self destruct isn't enough. You need to chose the freewinder,
losing your current ship. So there is a loss involved which is > rebuy if the CMDR has somewhat advanced.

And as freewindering is sort of a "shady" mechanic I doubt it will enter tutorials.

nope. this one in particular is rubbish:

Gank new players in open. That's part of the game. Picking on Harmless players as Elites gets you nothing. It isn't even a challenge. It does nothing except stroke your ego by kicking said kitten. That said, that IS part of the game, so no serious issue there.

pray tell what is the exact difference so these two go in the different categories of good and evil in your personal divine truth world?

both are interactions using intended mechanics of the game, both are cases of "abuse of a position of superiority". they just differ in their respective narrative (a quick gank in open might have a very condensed one :D), and in that one has been explicitly stated as "part of the game" by frontier and the other ... oh, wait, after rivers of ink we still hardly know factual data about. just vague hearsay. yet you have your mind all made up, of course. because it contains "slave" and "kids".

there are rumors of frontier action. squat is known about the specific actions or the motives, if any. it could have been for some jerk actually talking crap in chat to one of those kids. doesn't make the entire operation anything but ... emergent gameplay. a concept which could be actually first class entertainment and top notch emergent gameplay, if you could take your righteous blindfold off for a second. it's all in the details and you don't have any.

if you have specific information that justify you getting all riled up, please share. otherwise thanks for the show.

In my defense I could't dissect another post point by point today

so lots of excitement over this slave malarkey then aye? seen a number of "articles" on it, even a few closed threads, forgive me for not wanting to read through 18 pages but:
is there any proof that FDev have taken action over the slavers
what/why are we raging over

again sorry, time is limited yet I am intrigued

I remember when I started out I didn't know this forum existed, and I made my way to the Pleiades grabbing Meta Alloys (how I figured this out back then I have no idea... probably Google though) for Farseer.

In a Vulture.
Unengineered.
35-40 jumps, each way, almost getting stuck in systems with non-scoopable stars because I didn't know how to plot the route correctly either.

I also seem to remember that I lost the Meta Alloy twice, did it have corrosive damage back then? Not sure... possibly heat damage as part of the scooping maybe....

Either way... I realised later I could've saved myself that pain, but I planted my palm on my face, shook my head and laughed it off as various valuable lessons learned.

I would like to believe that others don't throw in the towel at the first signs of things not going their way. (possibly naively so).

Well I'm looking forward to kidnapping people in physical multiplayer.

Remember kinder: the free lollypops are a lie.
Never mind the lollypops.

I’ve seen threads on here from people who couldn’t land the first time so they came on here to tell us all how rubbish the game is and they’re giving up.
