A good poker face in the context of a card game.

Scummy, or not?

No, and way too simplistic.

This would be like raising someone in a bubble for 20 years without any outside knowledge of poker or anything else, and then throwing them into a card game with Fedor Holz for winner take all.

And even that's probalby a stupid wrong analogy but point is, It's only a fair game when both sides know the rules....

So you agree they shouldn't be banned from online? Why are you arguing with other people who think they shouldn't be banned then?

quite a turn around in the same post don't you think?

You don't have to practice.

I'm arguing with people who seem to think he did nothing wrong at all. Or that those of us who do think that, have a screw loose or something. The context that this discussion is solely about the ban? That wasn't as clear-cut as your are making it seem, and you know it.

Just listened to first 12m of the pilot interview, its pure scummy what they was doing.

Most people seem to think a ban from open and private is too harsh. I would ban them from the whole game!

I know the scammers are reading every post in this thread.

Enjoy the 5m of fame, nobody will care by next week, im off to play in open.

I don't think they did anything wrong (from my limited knowledge of the events). The context of the discussion is the knee-jerk reaction to what some people did in an open world game - which got them banned from online play by FD.
I keep reading they said some mean things on a discord or whatever, but those claims now appear to be backtracked.

You say the context of the discussion isn't as clear cut, I did ask you earlier what they did which went over the line, you didn't answer?

Looks like a clear cut case of breaking a long-standing ToS that wasn't edited or changed for PR purposes for this incident. But if spinning conspiracy theories is easier than just saying "I was wrong", have at it I guess.

To be honest I didn't personally want the guy banned, but the fact that he was has only increased my respect for Frontier as a gaming company. I think having one Eve Online in this genre is quite enough don't you?

Can you provide a link to the EULA that was broken in such a clear-cut manner please?

Anyone have a link to the EULA that may have been violated please?

Scamming

Leading or deceiving users in such a way
as to cheat or defraud them is not permitted under our Terms of Use, and can result in action being taken against your account. Scams through standard game mechanics that are not against our terms of use will be reviewed and judged on a case by case basis.

The italic part can be considered as an exception for ganking or piracy, but fleet carriers are not intended to be used to abduct and maroon other commanders intentionally.

What I would say to that is: that seems to cover real world money. The victims only lost ships and in game currency via in game mechanics. I guess being gobby sent FD over the edge I suppose with " Scams through standard game mechanics that are not against our terms of use will be reviewed and judged on a case by case basis."

So which is it? Is it a clear cut case or is it not a clear cut case?

People are not saying they did nothing wrong, but that the wrong they did was within the context of the game, just as “wrong” as ganking or killing the explorer and making them lose months of data.

What the 'slavers' did was wrong but Elite is better having this sort of player interaction. Any policing action should be conducted via the players at large rather than a ban by F-Dev. Are they so scared of the bad press connected to the word "Slavery"?

The more I think about it, I lean toward concluding this has to be a higher-level management knee-jerk response by virtue of the fact they already legitimized the gameplay by adding a Galnet article specifically warning CMDRs of such gameplay. Perhaps they should be reminded that any player can buy and sell "Imperial Slaves" which is a long standing, legitimate in-game mechanic.

The more F-Dev gets involved the less Elite or Dangerous their game becomes.

I disagree with the racism if there was any but as for the slavery activity i dont have any ill opinion on it, i actually found it funny.

If you look at the context (however dumb it may be for a not-so-new player), marooning and forcing self destruct + freewinder is a way to force a player to kiss engineered
modules goodbye.

You have to choose to land on one, you can't be forced to do so. By definition you're taking the risk of being at the mercy of a FC owner if you stay on for a jump somewhere, you're not being "forced". And sure, that's not the intention - but neither was the use of fireworks as weapons yet here we are. Thinking about this, that sounds like a great plan for Power Play stuff: get the enemy CMDRs to land and jump away, preventing them from completing objectives against your Faction until the weekly campaign is over. Would/Should that result in a ban too?
