Slave Carriers Update

People keep saying this over and over again. I think the most simple reason none of them did this, is because they were noobs and didn't know they could. I mean, ya think? Doesn't that seem to be the most plausible assumption?

I myself don't recall the whole Creative Use of Suicide tutorial but maybe I missed it...

People keep saying it because in 2021 it's hardly an unreasonable assumption that faced with a seemingly unbreakable game loop, which a player got into in circumstances which even the densest among them must have an inkling might be a bit suss by this time (although even that basic level of understanding isn't necessary to the hypothesis here) a player who must by definition have at least one internet capable device and the ability to use it would at that point investigate further.

I mean seriously, this perception of the poor helpless noob is getting a little absurd now. These people were not metaphorically or actually locked away from society for 20 years as mentioned in an earlier reply. They are absolutely not the same as people, for example, with mental health problems and low IQs who have found themselves subjected to real-world modern slavery by unscrupulous individuals and have had their communication devices and paperwork stolen from them (and you can take my word on that because I work for the government department with a lead role in investigating and prosecuting them...) No, these players, regardless of the in-game slavery, have exactly the same ability to research information about the game as you or I do. They still have the computers they were playing the game on, they still have their phones, they still live in developed first world countries (for the most part) with access to the internet.

I understand that your opinion about what happened here differs, but facts do not differ.

The very fact that as soon as i was mentioned on the forum people started saying 'oh, just suicidewinder' serves as a perfect illustration of just how easy it is to obtain that information with one question on the forums, regardless of an individual's lack of knowledge up to that point, so what i actually being suggested here - that they couldn't find the game forum with google? OK it's maybe true but I'd also suggest that if true they also probably couldn't find their arxe with both hands and a diagram.

No .. but if you docked on the carrier in solo the menu doesn't say anything about being affected by other player's actions. Opposite in fact. (It's not that simple is the truth).

When you join the game in solo, the menu is saying that you won't meet any commanders. Not that you will not be affected by their acctions.
The game relies on forwarding player actions between modes and platforms

Reported!

Get out!

I've been shown my arxe, I'll grab my coat.

I can't be bothered to listen the Pilot interview of the ringleader again, but he seems to have acknowledged that the discord server was put on notice by Discord for all the racism. That of course doesn't necessarily have to mean literally stuff, could just as well be modern breed 8chan lol kekistan material or whatever the restless young adult males spout online nowadays.

Yes, it certainly does sound like there were some towering thundertwunts involved. I mean, you take a clever bit of emergent gameplay and then go all in and ruin it with (possibly) racism and (maybe) distasteful historical references; that’s not cool and gives chaos a bad name.

But doesn't give a heads up on how carriers transcend modes and platforms.

Question only is, where do you put the disclaimer?
Add a warning somewhere and basically then you can leave people to have at it.

In the first paragraph you say only really dense clueless people could fall for this. Then follow that up by saying these were not dense clueless people with low IQ and that we shouldn't feel sorry for them. Which is it?

Maybe they were clueless. Maybe they were gullible. Some of them were apparently quite young. I'm not saying I'll even disagree with you on those points. I just don't see how that excuses the scale of the intentional scamming and subterfuge by the slaver.

I don't get the anger over this by some, unless you were planning on doing something scummy like this how have you been affected by this action? What exactly has the game lost? Like the game just suddenly sucks because you can't do a full-scale slavery operation to new players or something. I do NOT get it...

I have been playing less than a month, so I think that qualifies me as "new", yes? I believe the "slavers" weren't in the wrong here, they stayed within the game mechanics and found a creative way to do this. I wrote a longer comment already, but the short versions is:

1. If you're dumb enough to fall for this kind of thing in the first place you that's on you. If a "free ship" with a 2ly Jump Range wasn't a red flag you've not been paying attention even a little. "But the windowless van said 'free candy', how was I supposed to know?"
2. The "freewinder" (I like that term) and "Self-Destruct" were items I learned about on day-1 by checking out ship screens for information/functions, and reading the descriptions. Also there's a TON of resources online, 15 seconds on Google will get you the info even if you're only looking in the general direction of "What if I explode?".
3. Slavery is already a part of the game (Imperial Slaves), so morally there's no leg to stand on there - abstracted NPC's vs. players dumb enough to be tricked into a version of it doesn't really seem different to me.
4. It was innovative and inspiring in terms of how truly open the universe is, seeing it punished is more of a deterrent to those of us that do want freedom to try new ways of play - the morality of that should be up to us to decide as individuals so long as it's not actual cheating (e.g. Combat Logging).

Finally, if anyone kicked my cats, I'd be in real jail for what I'd do to them. No one messes with my kittens!
